The Spring Racing Carnival is come and gone and the home straight is in sight for Marist Youth Ministry as we turn into the final bend for 2016. A big finish awaits with several significant end-of-year events across the three regions. Here’s the latest …
REVIEW OF THE YEAR Last week, Liz, Jeni and Br Greg spent 3 days at the Marist Unit at Cronulla Beach taking some time to review the year. It was good to look at what has grown and what is still to be seeded. Many thanks to Ryan Gato who helped to facilitate our time together and refine the goals and strategies from our strategic plan for the coming two years.
Our MYM review began with a moment of contemplation (with bubbles) before the Melbourne Cup. Cronulla was the winner!
Working with Children Seminar In keeping up to date with best practice in working with children, Jeni Miller and Br Greg recently attended a 1-day workshop hosted by the NSW Office of the Children’s Guardian at the Marist Centre Sydney. The day focused on strengthening our organisation as a Child-safe environment though developing clear and safe policies around all our MYM events. Thanks to Br Ken McDonald for organising this worthwhile day.
Personnel from all Marist Groups were represented at the recent seminar on creating Child Safe organisations.

Our amazing Remar Ministry Team (RMT) have finished their major events for the year with the last of the 3 Red Leadership retreats having been completed.
For their final month the team is travelling in pairs to help schools recruit and launch their new caravels for 2017. We’re looking forward to welcoming a couple of new Marist schools into the flotilla in 2017.
The third and final Red Leadership retreat was held at Collaroy, NSW recently with four schools present, including Sacred Heart Adelaide. The team was terrific in their presentation, ably assisted by MYM Sydney Team and their Young Marist Volunteers.

Congrats to the RMT, Cassie Wilmot, Jeni Miller and her MYM team and volunteers for a terrifc retreat experience. We are certainly blessed with the number of youthful and active Remar helms who have put up their hand to guide the next generation of rowers.
Br Lawrie McCane gave an energetic and creative presentation on the ministry of Lavalla 200 Community at Mt Druitt.

MYM Website getting a fresh look!
After 3 years on the web, our MYM Website needs an upgrade to reflect the growing number of ministry events we are running. Recently we met with Michael Mirabella from VOIR Media at the Marist Centre in Melbourne to look at creating a fresh look. The plans are coming along!

‘GRASI’ IN FINAL STAGES OF PREPARATION
Our MYM Get-Real Alternative Schoolies Immersion to the Philippines is just under 3 weeks from embarking. There have been many people working hard behind the scenes to bring this annual event to launch mode. Many thanks to GRASI Leader Br Mark Fordyce, and his team of Anthony Mackett and Lucy Murrie for all the work going into final prep, and especially to Tracey Doublet (Melbourne) and Hayden Kennedy (Brisbane) for their terrific efforts in designing and preparing the booklet, resources and materials for the pilgrims. Next edition we’ll feature the pilgrims heading to the Philippines.
