Welcome to Land of Oak & Iron's Newsletter

As we adjust to a different way of working, the team at the Heritage Centre are moving forwards with planning some new events - making use of our cosy courtyard area and the beautiful outdoor space that we're fortunate to have surrounding the centre, there's also news from café shrub and the 'Eat Out to Help Out' scheme.

In this month's newsletter you can find out about: Don't forget to like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter to keep up to date with events, news and photographs taken by visitors and the team.

August Adventures

Our heritage fairies have been busy putting together activity packs to spark your family's imagination whilst they explore the beautiful outdoor spaces surrounding Land of Oak & Iron's Heitage Centre.

The activity pack comes in a customisable cotton tote bag and provides materials so you can create your own curious clay face like those above - you can add natural materials gathered on your family walk.  There's also a printed activity page, I-Spy nature page, activity booklet and other ideas for getting creative with natural materials.

Why not make a day of it with our delicious picnics prepared by cafe shrub (discounts available when buying an activity pack and picnic together) so you can walk, explore, create and eat in the great outdoors!

Activity pack £4.95    Child’s activity pack + child’s picnic £8.65

Adult picnic options also available (further details and menu on our Eventbrite booking page).

Every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday in August.

You need to book a day and time slot to collect your activity packs and picnics. There will be 1 family bubble allowed per timed slot – this ensures that you will be the only family collecting at that time to enable social distancing.

Booking essential - go to our Eventbrite booking page select a date, time and choose how many packs/picnics you would like to order.

We look forward to seeing your creations - please share photographs on our Facebook page so we can create a curious clay faces gallery.

AUGUST ADVENTURES - BOOKING ESSENTIAL
café  shrub and shop re-opens!

We have really enjoyed seeing people return to the Heritage Centre for our popular take-away service, it's been lovely having visitors around the courtyard again and the response has been very positive.

Lots of people have been asking when can they sit inside café shrub again to eat - so you will be pleased to hear we are now open for both take-away and table service.

Our chef will be preparing fresh food every day using local produce as always, including Afternoon Fillers,  Derwent Deli's, Butterfly Bridge Bites, Shrub Sides, Kid's Menu and of course our freshly baked sweets and Beckleberry's Ice-creams.

So please take a seat and enjoy a delicious café shrub lunch or treat with a cuppa.
If our tables are a little busy, why not find a nice secluded spot and have lunch al fresco in our green and wide open spaces.

We are also taking part in the 'Eat Out to Help Out' scheme - 50% off all food and drink when sitting in to eat Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, making August a great month to treat yourself to a meal inside café shrub.

Meet the Maker

Land of Oak & Iron are excited to announce our new 'Meet the Maker' events at the Heritage Centre.

We are keen to work with local artists and makers, expecially at this difficult time - did you know café shrub stocks some beautiful hand-made crafts and produce made by local artists/makers and we often run creative workshops too.

Local artists and makers are invited to have their own 'Meet the Maker' day in our Courtyard area, giving them the opportunity to showcase their work and for visitors to purchase directly from the artist/maker at their solo stand.

In the run up to each 'Meet the Maker' day, the artist/maker will have their work on display in café shrub's shop area.  We will produce marketing materials and promote the artist/maker and their event day on our website and social media channels.  We will also set up our Land of Oak & Iron gazebo with 2 tables and chairs, so it's all ready for the day.

The charge for this package would be £45 for the day - with the artist/maker keeping all proceeds of any sales that they make from their stall on the day.

If you are interested in taking part please get in touch with some details about you and your work, along with a link to your website or social media page if you have one.

Any questions or if would like to know more, please get in touch.
