Galway Community Sponsorship Group
Online information session on Tuesday 15th November

Nasc, the Migrant and Refugee Rights Centre and UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, are currently looking for expressions of interest from individuals or organisations to join a new Galway Community Sponsorship Group for the EU Passworld Project.

Through this project, the University of Galway is pioneering alternative ways of welcoming refugees to Ireland and will offer the first higher education scholarship to a refugee in spring 2023. The scholarship will be offered to a refugee currently residing outside Ireland who will travel to Ireland as part of the project.
Around the world, there are thousands of refugees waiting and living in neighbouring countries, sometimes in perilous conditions. The project aims to create a safe way from them to come to Ireland, through educational and employment opportunities.
The Community Sponsorship Group will comprise people from both the University and Galway’s wider community and will support the student over a two-year period with the support of Nasc.

Nasc hope to meet interested organisations and individuals throughout November and December to ensure that they can offer a safe and inclusive environment for the new arrival.

An online information session will take place on Tuesday 15th November at 5.30pm for those interested in being part of the group.
For details and registration, please contact Tessa Cornally by emailing or calling 087 904 8319.

CESCA Equality and Social Inclusion Small Grants Scheme 2022/2023
Cut-off date: Friday 11th November 2022

After an absence of over 3 years, CESCA is delighted to re-launch its grassroots grants scheme, CESCA Equality and Social Inclusion Small Grants Scheme 2022/2023, with huge thanks to the HSE Social Inclusion Services in Cork for supporting this initiative.

CESCA members are keenly aware as an Alliance, of the importance of collaboration in achieving greater equality and inclusion. Their intention with this one-off small grant is to support initiatives that are working to bring communities together, to promote and progress equality and social justice in Cork City. Joint applications with one or more other organisations or groups are particularly welcomed and encouraged. Given the times we are living in, priority will be given to applications focused on climate justice and/or those seeking to address socio-economic deprivation. However, CESCA welcome applications broadly focused on social justice issues within the City also. A total of €5,000 is being made available with grants of between €500 to a maximum of €1,000 to be allocated to successful applicants. Projects must be completed within a 12-month timeframe.
The closing date for applications is 5pm on Friday 11th November 2022 with successful applicants due to be announced in early December 2022, with funding to be made available in early January 2023.
Application forms can be accessed via
If you have any queries please contact Niamh Kelleher CESCA Coordinator,
