GCCN Meeting Re Arts and Culture

Would you like to find out how you can become more involved with GCCN Arts and Culture Linkage Group? Do you want to learn how you can influence decision making structures in Galway City?
Arts and CultureThis is a reminder that Galway City Community Network are holding an Arts and Culture Linkage group meeting.

GCCN will have an opportunity to give you an overview of the Network, how you may wish to be involved and on your representation at Galway City Council Economic Development, Social Enterprise and Culture Strategic Policy Committee.

GCCN have two representatives on the Galway City Council’s Economic Development, Enterprise Support and Culture Strategic Policy Committee (SPC). On this occasion, you will have an opportunity to meet Maeve Mulrennan the acting GCCN Representative on this SPC.

As the current council is coming to an end we will be updating you on the nomination and election process for GCCN representatives on local structures.

A Guide to Flora and Fauna of Merlin Park Woods Launch
Friends of Merlin Woods would like to invite you to the launch of A Guide to the Flora and Fauna of Merlin Park WoodsDr Janice Fuller, a woodland expert and renowned ecologist, will launch the guide on the day.

FoMW BookletThis 22-page booklet is a compilation of the wildlife of Merlin Park Woods researched, photographed and recorded in Merlin Park Woods over a 7-year period. 

The initial printing was funded through Local Agenda 21 and the photographs and design time have been given freely.

On the day, Friends of Merlin Woods will have a suggested donation of 2 euro that will go towards reprinting more copies.
FoMW Biodiversity Week FlyerOver the years Friends of Merlin Woods have worked on ways to raise the awareness of this area as a Biodiversity Haven and Hotspot in Galway showing why it needs protecting in the future.
Numerous methods are used through arts, drama, conservation projects, biodiversity and heritage events to raise that awareness.
This booklet will add greatly to this work. 

The launch will also coincide with the start of Biodiversity Week.
Friends of Merlin Woods have a number of events coming up that week for you all to enjoy.

Social Inclusion Grants 2019

Galway City Council invites applications for funding towards social inclusion projects and programmes in the City. Grants are available to voluntary organisations or those which operate on a not-for-profit basis. This Scheme provides financial support towards groups and organisations promoting Social Inclusion which operate in the City.

Young Hearts Murales Galway
Young Hearts Graduation Ceremony

Croí na Gaillimhe together with Our Lady’s College, NUI Physics Department and Galway 2020 are inviting the public to the Graduation Ceremony for The Young Hearts Programme and The Mill Street Quilters.

Tuesday 21st May 2019, 10.30am – 12pm O’Donoghue Centre for Drama, Theatre and Performance, NUIG

Graduation Ceremony InvitationThis Intergenerational Programme between Croí na Gaillimhe older people and Our Lady’s College Galway transition year students in conjunction with NUI Physics Department and Galway 2020 brought together two groups – the multinational sewing group at Croí na Gaillimhe and the inter-generational group – Young Hearts, to create three quilts.

The ceremony will be followed by an exhibition of the quilts some further artwork based on astronomy.
