PPN Community Insurance Impact Assessment

Last Reminder
⚠️ Last opportunity to share your insight into the impact of rising insurance costs on the average community group.
PPNs across Ireland have been hearing about the growing financial burden that rising insurance is having on the work of community groups and activities across the country.
In order to respond on your behalf, we need to know the facts and have evidence about how this is affecting your work.
This survey is anonymous though excerpts from what you tell us will be shared to help inform a national response around insurance issues.

Healthy Green Spaces - Invitation for Expressions of Interest
Closing date Friday 19th July 2019


Galway City Council’s Recreation & Amenity Section are seeking expressions of interest from groups and organisations, including Environmental Groups, Statutory Bodies, Institutional & Educational Bodies, Residents’ Associations, Retail/Business Park Management Companies, Residential Management Companies, Retailers, Small Businesses to participate over a 5-Year Period commencing in January 2020.

Healthy Green Spaces is a new Initiative which will replace the Community Planting Initiative.

The plan is to work with groups that are committed to developing a long-term approach to their green areas to encompass a range of environmental issues, climate change and biodiversity and who would like to:
1.       Work in tandem with the Recreation & Amenity Section to agree with design & management proposals to enable your green spaces to be people-friendly;
2.       Eliminate the use of pesticides and other harmful chemicals on the green space;
3.       Utilise organic soil nutrition methods and skills;
4.       Adopt a zero waste strategy for the green space to incorporate composting and grasscutting management;
5.       Adopt a plastic-free zone strategy for your green space;
6.       Your green space to be a minimum of a carbon-neutral zone and aim to be a long-term carbon sequester;
7.       Implement the Strategies as established in the National Pollinator Plan; Galway City Council will provide appropriate pollinator plants as part of this;
8.       Adopt the principles of permaculture design & management.

In the Westside area of Galway, local organisations have been eagerly creating a jam-packed festival programme for the Westside Arts Festival. This year people from all walks of life are invited to light the way towards a brighter future. “Lighting the Way” is the goal for 2019. New horizons of all kinds will be explored, be they cultural, imaginative or scientific.

When: 9th to 13th July 2019
Where: Westside, Galway

Now in its 15th edition, the Festival is an annual celebration of creativity in the community. Westside is a diverse neighbourhood and the festival hopes to reflect this in the array of local talent showcased in over thirty events taking place across local venues.
Whether you’re a Westside denizen, a curious visitor, or a newbie scoping out the area come along and take part in the events and workshops.

Getting Started Computer Training
Free Computer Classes For People Over 55
As part of their fight against digital exclusion, Age Action's Getting Started Computer Training Programme delivers free computer classes to people over the age of 55. The aim is to make older people comfortable using computers, tablets, smartphones and the Internet.
On Mondays:
Galway City Library
10am - 12pm

On Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Thursdays:
Age Action Francis St.
10.30am - 12.30pm 

On Fridays:
10.30am - 12.30pm

Getting Started Computer Training Programme was designed specifically to address the challenges and barriers experienced by older learners. Volunteers are trained and supported to provide one-to-one tuition in a relaxed and non-formal learning environment.
