Message from the Principal

Spring is here and with it comes … yes, you guessed it, mud.  Please ensure that your children bring appropriate footwear to school and remind them to remove any dirty/wet/muddy shoes or boots in their boot room before coming into the school.  Also, please reinforce the notion of staying off the newly seeded areas of the school grounds for a few weeks until the grass has had a chance to take.

Thank you, in advance, to the parents who take the time to fill out the “Our School” survey.  This survey provides us with a great source of information as to what we are doing well and not so well as a school.  Our students will be engaged with this survey in April, which will provide valuable information about what our students feel about their education and schooling.  This is a very important way that we can access our students’ voice, and our parents’ voice.  We utilize this important feedback to help us address our students’ learning needs and work towards maintaining and improving a safe and caring environment in which to learn.

Our spring fundraiser will occur during April with an early May delivery. The money raised from this fundraiser pays for all of the extra and special activities that virtually all College Park students benefit from. Please support the fundraising efforts of our students, your children, to ensure they can continue benefit from these activities.

Track and Field activities as well as running club will be starting up soon.  Stay tuned for information about these activities.

Enjoy the upcoming spring.

K. David McLennan,
Principal
COBRAS Alumni Performs at Brandon Jazz Festival

Cobras Alumni, James Griffith, recently traveled with the LCHS Jazz Band to Brandon to participate in the Brandon Jazz Festival, where his impressive skill as a saxophonist was noticed.  During the festival, James was approached by members of Winnipeg's Dirty Catfish Brass Band to perform as a featured soloist during one of their performances at the festival.  Great job, James!

Friday March 24 saw the APEGA Science Olympics for grade 9 students. Team Cobra (Herman Aamir, Manat Sidhu, Nabiha Saghar, Amberley Trigg) represented the school and community well. The event had two challenges: one with electromagnetism and the other a mystery building challenge. The team distinguished themselves with the building challenge using a canti-lever approach with a gye-string support.
Science Olympics Cont'd...

Overall, the team earned a silver level placing based on the points earned during the challenges.

Congratulations Cobras!

OurSchool
We are inviting parents to participate in an online anonymous OurSchool survey. This survey provides feedback to College Park staff about the extent to which parents feel the school supports learning and positive behaviour and promotes a safe and inclusive environment.
Information from this survey will help guide decision making and goal setting for College Park School.
Students, parents and teachers will be complete the survey in April.

A link to the survey will be emailed to you directly by your child's teacher in the near future.  Thank you for contributing your voice!
Our spring fundraiser begins next week!  Watch for order forms to come home and be posted on our social media.

Wednesday March 29 saw the Cobras dominate the slopes at Table Mountain. A rebooked date from earlier in the year that saw one of the coldest days emerge as a balmy 9C. Not a single person complained of the cold. Smiles, laughter and memories were gained from a great day on the hill.
Parent Presentation

E.S.Laird is hosting an evening with Landyce from Mental Health. Landyce will share her experience with parents on topics relating to teen mental health. At times, students begin to experiment with drugs to "self medicate" physical or emotional hurts. Landyce will share signs for parents to watch for, tips on how to manage things and what drugs are prevalent for youth in the city of Lloydminster right now.  This event will be on April 6th  from 7 - 8 pm in the E.S.Laird Library.  All LPSD family's are welcome.
