Our final weight management topic is definitely the easiest and most fun. Dogs and cats can typically be entertained with toys and treats. But don’t get too excited yet, there should be some guidelines as it pertains to weight loss. Cognitive or interactive toys can help increase both mental and physical stimulation.
Interactive toys allow for treats or dry food to be hidden and allow your pet to figure out how to retriever their prize. Some of these toys only allow for a small amount of kibble to be released at a time so that your pet has to play with the toy for a full meal. If you really want to spoil your pup, a self-feeding tennis ball launcher could be worth a try. For the kitties, catnip can give them a burst of energy. For those that aren’t interested in catnip, you can try Tatarian Honeysuckle, Valerian Root, or Japanese Catnip. A self-timed laser machine can create an evening of fun had by all. Perches with vertical integration can allow for climbing which cats seem to innately want to do. A feather wand with small bells will likely get their motors turning too.
Have fun and thanks!
