Transfer Articulation

The transfer articulation unit in the Office of the Registrar maintains current and historical lists of articulated courses from domestic two-year and four-year institutions.

Types of Transfer Credit

  • Course Credit: college-level coursework taken at regionally accredited colleges and universities
  • Nontraditional Credit: advanced placement credit based on tests or examination
    • College Board Advanced Placement Examinations (AP)
    • College-Level Examination Program (CLEP)
    • Dantes Subject Standardized Tests (DSST)
    • International Baccalaureate Examinations (IB)
  • Advanced Standing: transfer credits that are submitted after students matriculate to UNLV

The unit maintains transfer tables for test and course credits in MyUNLV, the Transfer Evaluation System (TES), and Transferology Lab

Transfer credits can be articulated as the same or similar course to the one that was taken, as major or general electives, or as non-transferable. How a course articulates determines how it will apply to an academic program. An articulated course could fulfill general education, major, college, or elective requirements.

Please visit our Transfer Resources page for additional information.

Common Course Numbering System

The Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) has a policy called Common Course Numbering  (CCN). This process aims to streamline course equivalency and transfer articulation across the state institutions.

CCN is required for any new course proposed or any course changes to the Prefix, Course Number, Title, Credits, Same As, and if you are updating a significant amount (>20%) of your content.

This means that any course taught at one institution, which is also taught at another institution, will have the same prefix, number, title, and credits, making transfer significantly easier for students. Commonly numbered courses automatically transfer as the same course.

Please visit the CCN Search Site for more information.
