Week 2

Another wonderful week serving the wonderful people of House District 32 in the People's House down! I've enjoyed working with colleagues and especially working with our phenomenal Legislative Intern this year, Katie! Please check out the "Intern Corner" to hear about her week!

This was a busy week! We have passed 3 bills out of committee and one is even already in the Senate! These bills will help Utah better prepare for future emergencies and help save taxpayers and patients money on expensive healthcare and prescription medications! I am hopeful that they will be made into law!

There are many bills being considered this year, and there are bills or issues that are on your mind, please don't hesitate to reach out to me. You can text at 801-999-8047 or email at sharrison@le.utah.gov.

Your input and perspective matter to me!

Sincerely,

Suzanne

Working for You!

I often hear from constituents and patients who are stressed about the ever increasing costs of healthcare and prescription drugs.

Last year I co-sponsored legislation to help patients save money on insulin. This program has helped hundreds of Utahns afford this life-saving medication.

This week I presented our bill, HB206, to the Health and Human Services Committee and received unanimous support!

This bill will help patients save money on another life-saving and expensive medication, epinephrine auto-injector (epi-pens). Many patients have life-threatening allergies to certain foods, medications, or other triggers. These allergies can be fatal quickly if epinephrine isn't administered emergently. Unfortunately this medication is very expensive and many can't afford it. This bill will help patients purchase this essential medication for a discounted price.
Thanks to the Health and Human Services Committee for their unanimous support of HB 206 to help patients save money! Thanks to Rep. Norm Thurston, (R) and PEHP Health and Benefits Director, Chet Loftis, for their support and work on this issue!

I also presented HB99 on the floor of the House of Representatives which received unanimous support! It allows Utah’s Public Employee Health Plan to enter into joint purchasing agreements to save money on expensive prescription drugs.

This bill will help save Utah taxpayers money!

Presenting HB99 on the floor of the House of Representatives.
I presented HB96 Emergency Management Act Amendments to the Political Subdivisions Committee this week. This bill will help our cities, counties, and state better prepare for future emergencies. The committee passed the bill unanimously and now it goes to the house for a vote!

Thank you to the many emergency management experts, first responders, and state and community officials who serve 24/7 and worked to make this legislation possible!

Special shout-out to Director Kris Hamlet and Jona Whitesides of Utah Department of Emergency Management & Chief Clint Mecham of Unified Fire Authority!

Intern Corner

Hi everyone!

I can't believe another week has come and gone, this session is just flying by! I am having blast working with Rep. Harrison and Lesser. This week I discovered the fun of committee meetings! It is so fascinating to sit in on the committee meetings to hear legislators present bills on all sorts of topics. Attending committee meetings has helped me become more familiar with the bills on the agenda for this session. Lawmaking is so fun!

I've also enjoyed getting to know some of the other interns working alongside me in the Capitol. I have become acquainted with some fellow interns during our socially distanced lunches. Meeting new people and hearing their perspectives has greatly enriched my experience as an intern.

I also learned that there is in fact an ice/water machine in the House building just down the hall from Rep. Lesser's office which saves me hiking up the 8 flights of stairs I had been doing to get ice water in the minority caucus office! Eventually, I will learn my way around this place!
