Thanks to all who came to our Tax Reform Town Hall last night or called, texted, or emailed your thoughts on tax reform bill. I have heard from hundreds of constituents, and the message is clear: our community is overwhelmingly OPPOSED to this tax reform bill.
I hear you. I am listening to you, and I will be your voice tonight in the Special Session and in the coming months.
I am voting NO on the tax reform bill.
While there are a few parts of the bill that I support like eliminating the tax on social security benefits and the earned income tax credit, there is too much that I can’t support in this flawed bill and rushed process. There have been over 13 versions of this bill, and the most recent version came out yesterday.
This bill cuts >$600Million/year from the education fund, shifts the tax burden to most vulnerable in the form of increasing the food tax, and has the government picking winners and losers when it comes to taxing services. It is time to slow down and go back to the drawing board.
I appreciate all the hearing from you and please continue to reach out to me as issues. arise that you care about.
Thank you for the opportunity to represent you and our community.
