Two years ago, George Halfkenny and I founded THRIVE to deeply engage community members in the experience of reentry and to empower adults returning from incarceration to heal harm, overcome stigma, and together THRIVE in community. This journey continues to be a great adventure, and has been made possible by the dedicated THRIVE members and volunteers who have given so much of themselves to their communities.

THRIVE core member “Joel” says that his Circle of Support and Accountability (CoSA) team helped him to build his confidence, set goals and make a plan for himself that was positive and healthy. From rebuilding credit, to getting a driver’s license, a vehicle and full-time employment, he expressed that every aspect of his life was strengthened by the CoSA team’s support. With love and encouragement, THRIVE helped him define and meet his own measures for success. Thank you for being a part of Joel’s journey and many others who have found healing through CoSA.

As a member of the THRIVE community, you know that our connections to those around us are what make THRIVE strong. With that goal in mind, we have strengthened our relationships with local faith communities, partnered with UMASS Lowell faculty and students, and increased our capacity to connect with those around us through a Community Organizing Training with the Merrimack Valley Project.

Your support has allowed THRIVE to grow in our second year. We have launched a Lawrence Listening Campaign, in addition to our existing sessions in Lowell. As always, THRIVE has an eye on the underlying issues that can influence the reentry process and as part of that work, has piloted and hosted four Experiential Diversity Trainings. Strengthening the CoSA process has also been a priority, and the three CoSA trainings that we hosted this year have added to our capacity to effect change in our communities - now including Worcester!

All of this fantastic work --supported by you-- has also allowed THRIVE to receive the Cummings Foundation 100k for 100 grant, and we look forward to what this financial backing will mean for all of our members and volunteers.

Thank you for being a part of the THRIVE community this year. We are grateful for your support and invite you to build upon this foundation by considering a one-time or recurring gift. Your gift will strengthen THRIVE’s mission in the New Year, and the next $2000 in donations will be doubled through our generous funder: MatchLink. Give online at www.thrivema.org/support. Your generosity will nurture resilience from incarceration in local communities, create spaces to empower individuals impacted by incarceration, and provide a means for direct action among local community members. Please call or text me at 617-642-4553 with your questions.

Happy Holidays!
