I have been inspired by so many expressions of compassion and concern for our families, and I hope this message finds you and your family healthy and well despite these unprecedented times. While the world seems to change by the minute, our commitment to families seeking life-saving medical care for their children is unwavering.
Based on expert advice, in an effort to protect these families and prevent the spread of COVID-19, RMHC Global has temporarily restricted acceptance of new families in Ronald McDonald Houses worldwide.  This moratorium, unless extended, runs through May 2.
Despite Coronavirus, moms are still having babies who are born prematurely and must remain in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit for weeks or months.  Three families were staying at our Ronald McDonald House at the pandemic's onset.  Currently we are housing one family.  In order to continue keeping families close during this time, we obtained a discounted room rate at the Topeka Ramada Inn for referred families.  Thankfully, McDonald’s owners/operators Tom & Marilyn Dobski generously donated to cover their hotel costs.  We are providing welcome bags, restaurant gift cards and snacks, and doing our best to support these families from a distance.
Like many, these families are scared and they need you — and the Ronald McDonald House — today more than ever. We are pivoting to find new ways to meet the critical needs of families currently in our care — and those who will soon need us.  We are also committed to the health and well-being of our volunteers and staff. Our team is working diligently to address concerns and prevent COVID-19 in the Ronald McDonald House. To maintain the safety of our families, we have suspended our volunteer program and are not allowing visitors at the Ronald McDonald House while the Governor’s Stay at Home and Shawnee County Health Officer’s Safer at Home Orders are in place.

Thank you for your continued support, which is vital to our mission of keeping families close. We know we will all get through this together.

We are very thankful to receive Share a Night Room Sponsorship Program grant awards from the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas Foundation ($5,000) and Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation ($5,000).

The Share a Night Room Sponsorship Program is essential to the Ronald McDonald House mission, providing families with much more than just a roof over their heads. Share a Night grant awards help maintain our eight sleeping rooms throughout the year by underwriting the cost of utilities, linens, cleaning, annual repairs and more.

Share a Night support allows families to focus on what matters most – their seriously ill or injured children.  Through financial support from the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas Foundation and Prairie Band Potawatomi  Nation, Topeka's Ronald McDonald House is better positioned to keep families close together and allow them to provide love, comfort and a sense of normalcy for their hospitalized children.

In Memoriam

We are saddened by the loss of our friend Nathan Leadstrom, who passed away on February 26. Nathan formerly served on our Board of Directors and was Board President in 2016. He shared an amazing passion for RMHC based on his family’s personal experience.  Nathan spent his whole career practicing law for Goodell Stratton Edmonds & Palmer and was elected managing partner in 2014. Nathan was beloved by so many of us, and his presence will be greatly missed.
We are beyond excited to receive three new washers and three new dryers donated by Topeka's Jetz Service Company!  Laundry is a constant at the Ronald McDonald House, which makes this gift such a blessing. Jetz has been around since 1966 and is known for providing excellent customer service.  We are very appreciative of Jetz Service's generous support!
