Message from DG George Andrako

Greetings Lions,

I would like to start this letter by congratulations to DGE Jason Long, First VDGE Karl Jackson, and Second VDGE Bernice Fox on being elected to serve the District. I wish them well on the challenge in the coming year.

Wow! Where did this year go?  It flew by with this being my last letter to you as your Governor.  I would like to thank all of great Lions in the District for their support in helping District 14-M shine in Lionism this year.  With all that is going on in the world today, it makes our serving the communities a real challenge. Hopefully things will get back to some normal soon.

I was saddened by the passing of PIP Wayne Madden.  We have lost a great Lion. Sympathy to his family and to those whose lives he touched.

With this year being one with the cancellation of our District, State, and international conventions along with club meetings and fundraising, it has been one for the history books.  We will overcome this in time and march forward with your help and support.

Again, I want to say “THANK YOU” for all the help that was given to me this year as your Governor.

"WE SERVE"
DG George

Message from VDG Jason Long

District 14-M Lions,

It’s hard to believe that we are in the final month of the Lions year. Seems like only a short time ago I was in Milan getting ready to kick off another new year. Congratulations to all newly elected Lions Club Officers, and to 1st VDGE Karl Jackson and 2nd VDGE Bernie Fox. I look forward to working with all of you in the coming year. I want to thank everyone who voted in the District 14-M election and all who supported me while running for District Governor.

Next year is going to be a busy year. There will be a lot on our plate to be done for next year. Working together as a District, we can accomplish our tasks and meet our goals for the coming year. A big part of our work next year will involve the North American Membership Initiative (NAMI). District 14-M is still in need of a NAMI Champion to coordinate and oversee the planning and execution of NAMI with the help of the District Leadership. This is a very important position to the success of our District next year. I am looking for a Past District Governor with an interest in building and strengthening our Clubs to step forward and become the District 14-M NAMI Champion and work with me to make our district stronger and better. Please contact me immediately if you are interested. I have included a graphic showing why NAMI was created and why it is so important.

The clubs in District 14-M have continued the great tradition of service to their communities through the COVID-19 pandemic.  As I write this, several counties in PA have been moved to the “Green” stage and things are beginning to open up again. Several clubs are planning to meet again in person this month. As we begin to get back to more normal operations, I am sure that the service that the Lions Clubs of District 14-M provide to their communities will continue to increase. Club Secretaries, please begin sending you reports for inclusion in the newsletter to 1st VDGE Karl Jackson beginning with your June reports. Stay safe and continue to serve.

Yours in Service,
DGE Jason Long

Message from 2nd VDG Karl Jackson

Greetings,

I would like to say, Thank you Lions Club District 14-M for your vote of confidence on electing me to be the 1st VDG.  As I prepare for the new phase in my life, I ask for your continuous prayers for my family and me as we support each other in the growth and spreading of lionism.  It has been a great journey thus far.  As we deal with the COVID-19, lets stay safe as we serve.  To God be the Glory for the great things He has done.

Yours in Lion Service
1st VDGE Karl Jackson.

To address this needs of our local volunteer fire departments and Connellsville Community Ministries, the Connellsville Lions Club has challenged our local businesses and community members.  The Lions Club is going to donate $1,000 each to:  New Haven Hose Company,  South Connellsville Fire Company, Morrell Fire Company, Connellsville Township Fire Company, Bullskin Township Fire Company and the Connellsville Community Ministries.  So far, we have received donations from:  Suter and Sons Construction Company, Graft Oil Company, State Farm Insurance, Somerset Trust Company  and the Bullskin Lions Club.   Now, we have invited other local businesses and citizens to also consider making donations.  We are extending our challenge until June 30th.  This is just another example of how our club embodies the Lions motto of "We Serve".

Beacon Lodge News Article

Beacon Lodge is quiet and still and will remain that way for the 2020 Camping season. The COVID -19 virus has ended the dreams of some well deserving campers – young and old alike. But most campers are looking forward to next year’s camping season. Many activities have been cancelled but not hope and happiness. Beacon Lodge will come alive two weekends in August for PLAD and the Golf Outing.

Pennsylvania Lions Appreciations Day (PLAD) is now scheduled for Sunday August 23, 2020. There will not be campers in attendance to present their annual talent show, but many of the other activities of PLAD will be available for Lions who attend this event. This is a great chance to visit Beacon Lodge and see how beautiful the grounds are and what the camp has to offer. It is also a time to visit with Lions that you have not seen for awhile; since many Lions activities have been cancelled. The basket raffle and the “Great Duck Race” are two of the events that will take place. A $5.00 donation will give you have a chance to win –BIG.
1st Place -$1,000
2nd Place -$500
3rd Place $250
4th Place $125
5th Place $125
Last Place $5.00.

Dan and Linda currently have Duck Race tickets. We ask that your club or you contact them for your tickets and a chance to win. We will be happy to send you the tickets if you send us the money. Please help support Camp Maintenance at Beacon Lodge.

The 4th Annual PA Lions Beacon Lodge Camp Golf Outing is scheduled for August 29th at Mount Union American Legion Country Club. Please find attached the informational sheet.
There are many other ways for Lions to support this “Special Services Camp for Children and Adults” built and maintained by Pennsylvania Lions.  Please consider supporting Beacon Lodge with monetary gifts, donations, memorials and honorariums.

If you have any questions please call 14-M’s Board of Director Linda or Liaison Dan, if no answer - leave a message.
