Message from DG Jason Long
District 14-M Lions,

Club visits have now begun. Please check the visitation schedule in this newsletter. If the date that I have scheduled to visit your club is not suitable, please let me know and I will reschedule. If your club sponsors a Leo Club, I would ask that you invite them (if they are meeting at the time) to attend my visit. Their attendance is not required, but I would like them to be invited to attend.

Also included is the District Alignment for this year with contact information for Zone and Region Chairpersons. As you can see, there is a need at this time for some Zone Chairpersons. If you have served as a Club President and are interested in being a Zone Chairperson, please contact me as soon as possible. I also have openings for a 3-year appointment to the Pennsylvania Lions Hearing Research Foundation, a District Alert Chairperson, and a non-lion (open to Lionesses) member of We Serve. If anyone is interested in any of these positions, please contact me.

This year has started a bit slow as can be expected given the situation we are in with the pandemic. That has not stopped our Lions and Lioness Clubs from serving. I am proud of the effort and creativity shown by the clubs in District 14-M in continuing to serve throughout this difficult time. I am looking forward to visiting the clubs and learning how they have been serving their communities during the pandemic. I ask Club Service Chairpersons to look at the letter and application for the Kindness Matters Service Award in this newsletter. If you would like to nominate a service project from your club, print and complete the application and send it to District GST Coordinator PDG Gloria Schmalz by August 15.

The first Cabinet meeting is scheduled for Saturday August 29 at 2:00 at the Pleasant Valley Masonic Center. Details and logistics are still being determined at this time due to Governor Wolf’s orders and the uncertainty brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. I will release a flier by email to the district when details have been finalized. I hope that we are able to gather together in person to conduct the business of District 14-M and enjoy fellowship.

Also mark your calendars for Sunday August 23 for Pennsylvania Lions Appreciation Day at Beacon Lodge. Lions Linda Myers from the Somerset Lions Club and Dan Moore from the Waynesburg Lions Club still have duck race tickets available. Please let them know if you would like to purchase a ticket.

Yours in Service,
DG Jason Long

Message from 1st VDG Karl Jackson

 Hello to all Lions
Hoping everyone is still staying safe and that all is well in your clubs.  I had a great time at the Dunbar meeting with our DG Jason.

Our DG has a great plan this year and we are encouraged to get behind him and help push our 14-M District forward.  I know Covid-19 has slowed us up but we will not stop!  Looking forward to our meetings.

Yours in Lion service

Message from 2nd VDG Bernie Fox

As you know, the Lions Beacon Lodge is about to have a golf outing as well as duck race. And also as you know, the corona virus has been hard on them this summer.  So, if you have some extra change or get some friends to pull together, purchase a sign for their tournament.  They still have a  lot of empty holes available.  Or you can just make a donation to the Camp.  I’m sure they will appreciate anything you can spare.
Also, if you see Lion Dan Moore around, congratulate and thank him for stepping up to the plate and agreeing to be the Zone Chair for Greene County.  We need more supporters like him.  There are many positions that are open and need someone to agree to take them.
And so we enter the month of August, I pray for the end of the corona virus and I pray for good health
for everyone.

Hello Fellow Lions,

I have been asked to be the District Administrator and District Service Co-Ordinator for District 14-M.

I am here to help all the clubs. You can email me at

All clubs must report their officers for 2020-2021 to LCI and to District Governor Jason Long, all must report your membership for the month, and all must report service activities for the month. I can help with all three of those items.

If you are having problems, please email me and we can work on it.

Pictured are King Lion Robert Macik, Lion Barb Macik, Lion Michael Kazmarski, Secretary Gloria Schmalz and Kieth Zimmer from Canonsburg Hospital. Greater Canonsburg Lions delivered 12 trays of cookies to the employees of Canonsburg Hospital.

This program is designed to reverse the decline in Lions membership.

The program is authorized by LCI. Our DG has asked me to be the District NAMI champion or team leader. I will be working with the Governor’s team.

You will hear more about NAMI as time goes on. I would like to come to the Region/ Zone meetings if we can have them. Also, I will be sending out information to 14M clubs on membership.

There is a Lioness bridge program that is being used this year. I will be sending out information to the Lioness clubs and the sponsoring clubs regarding this.

Looking forward to working with everyone this year on maintaining current members and obtaining new ones.
