An Update from the Florida Baptist Associationx|x SEP 2014
Give Generously

Sean McMahonWhy is the Maguire State Missions Offering important?
1. The offering has a missionary purpose. The MSMO helps new congregations through no-interest church site loans, supports partnership pastors and aids in spreading the gospel through evangelistic ministries.

2. The offering provides funding for 24 compassionate ministries. One such ministry is “I’m 4 Him” Ministries, established by our own Shady Sea Baptist (Spring Creek) pastor, Pat McArthur, which reaches out to men on their first days after being incarcerated, assisting them with the transition back to society while sharing the gospel and discipling them. Without funding from the offering, many of these ministries could not be accomplished.

3. The offering actually returns back to us. This year, through the Shared Receipts program, nearly $4,000 came back to our association, and was used to offset gifts made to new works in our area.

I encourage our churches to give generously to the Maguire State Missions Offering!

“ETHICS, MORALITY AND THE CHURCH”
Our theme for the annual FBA Night of Worship and Celebration
Sunday, October 19, 2014 – 6 p.m., Thomasville Road Baptist Church
Dr. Phillip Bethancourt, Guest Speaker

The world’s definition of ethics and morality is rapidly changing. How should the church respond? What can we do when faced with ever-changing positions on those issues we – and scripture – clearly speak about?

This is the situation Dr. Phillip Bethancourt, Executive Vice-President of the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission of the SBC, will speak to us about. In his role with the ERLC, Phillip leads in the development of innovative strategies to equip churches to address the key moral and ethical issues of the day.

We are so convinced these issues need to be addressed in our area that we are opening this meeting to like-minded area congregations. Mark your calendars and plan to join us at Thomasville Road Baptist for this night of worship together! Preschool childcare is provided.

I’m excited about the days ahead and thankful for the privilege to serve as your Executive Director!

By His grace, for His glory,
Sean

2014 Maguire State Mission Offering

2014 Goal: $1,159,000

Florida Baptists look to the month of September as a time of awareness, reflection and prayer for the great opportunities God has presented them in the state.

The Week of Prayer for State Missions, most often observed during the first week of September, concludes with Florida Baptists giving to support these missionary needs through the Maguire State Mission Offering.

The offering is named for Clyde and John Maguire, whose visionary leadership guided the Florida Baptist Convention through one of its greatest periods of growth and Great Commission outreach. He served as the sixth executive secretary-treasurer from 1945-67.

Maguire State Mission Offering

Understanding that the growing missionary needs in Florida cannot be met by Cooperative Program gifts alone, the offering complements Florida Baptists’ commitment to the Great Commission and their mission field.

The offering has a missionary purpose—helping new congregations through no-interest church site loans, supporting partnership pastors and spreading the gospel through evangelistic ministries.

The theme for 2014, Embracing Florida, is taken from the passage found in Luke 10: 1-2: “After this the Lord appointed seventy others and sent them two by two ahead of him to every city and place where he was about to go. He told them, 'The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.'" (NIV)

Through the Maguire State Mission Offering, Florida Baptists—God’s Compassionate People—have an opportunity to be a blessing to those who are followers of the Lord as they seek to win souls and proclaim the gospel message.

The Offering provides funding for 24 compassionate ministries designed to fulfill God’s purpose in Florida and the Great Commission among its mission partners. Without funding from the offering, many of these ministries could not be accomplished.

Through their gifts to the Maguire State Mission Offering Florida Baptists are God’s Compassionate People displaying a heart of generosity to all people.
