Tuesday Meet Up

A chance to meet up over a drink and talk through what we might be doing together in the coming year.  Let's hear what's important to you for cycling in our city.

Come and join us at George's Meeting House from 6pm on Tuesday 24th January.

Look for a mass of cycle helmets at one of the tables!

Leadership Engagement

One of the streams of the Exeter Cycling Campaign is 'leadership engagement'.

Members of the Campaign have been meeting one to one with City and County Councillors to help them catch a vision for how cycling can be a key part of the solution to the city's challenges of pollution, congestion and unhealthy lifestyles.

In addition, the Campaign has been invited to speak at the next Exeter Board Committee meeting on Feb 2nd at 5:30pm in the Exeter Civic Centre.  It would be great to have you in the public gallery to show support for the Campaign.

Pop the date in your diary and come and see local democracy in action!

An Update

The Exeter Cycling Charter continues to be the Campaign's key focus. Over 150 organisations have now pledged their support.

The Charter is a simple statement of support for cycling as the means of making Exeter a better city.

Will you consider which organisations you can approach to support the Charter?  It’s not a frightening experience.  Organisations have overwhelmingly warmly welcomed the Charter as a good initiative that they are willing to support.  There’s a wealth of supporter resources here that can help you with this.

Bicycle parking in the city centre

Members of the Campaign recently submitted a response to the city leisure centre plans which pointed out the poor provision of cycle parking.  In response the subsequent City Council Planning meeting commissioned a review of city centre cycle parking.  The Campaign was invited to contribute to this.

Many positive proposals were garnered on Facebook and two Campaign members joined the walk-about review in January where our proposals were listened to.  It is our hope that the city centre developments will make better provision for cycle parking as a result.

This is a small but important step in being recognised by the City Council as a valued interlocutor and a demonstration of how, as a group of individuals, we can mobilise and affect change.

2017 is an election year

All the Devon County wards will be up for election in May'17.  We'll be thinking through how we can ensure cycling is put on the agenda of every prospective Councillor.  Watch this space for the part you can play in this.  We're going to need every supporter doing their bit for this one.

What does the Exeter Cycling Campaign stand for?

Enabling cycling will help Exeter tackle its challenges of pollution, congestion and unhealthy lifestyles.

A comprehensive, convenient and connected network of cycle infrastructure enables people to choose cycling as the safe, natural choice for a large proportion of everyday journeys. This frees up road-space for essential car journeys.
