I’ve spent a lot of time driving back and forth to Northern Virginia in the last few weeks. Some trips were joyous, some solemn. Our youngest grandson graduated from high school this year, and we enjoyed celebrating his accomplishment. The solemn trips resulted from the deaths of two old and dear friends from our Alexandria church. That’s one of the things that go along with living many years—we tend to lose old friends along the way. Hot summer days (the Williamsburg heat index has been in the 110° F range all the last week) do encourage one to stay indoors with air conditioning and work on my writing.
