Your 2019 Fremantle Society
At last week's AGM, John Dowson was reelected unopposed as President, and the 2019 committee is as follows:
Secretary: Chris Williams
Treasurer: Adele Carles
Committee: Mike Finn, Peter Scott, Agnieshka Kiera, Robert Bodkin, Ian Molyneux, Jeremy Bean.
We are fortunate to have a long standing member of the Society Chris Williams to be Secretary. Chris is a lawyer with a depth of experience in Fremantle affairs. Adele Carles will be invaluable as Treasurer, bringing her extensive experience of community matters, including four years as Fremantle MP. Jack Turnbull has kindly offered to stay on and help behind the scenes with the financial affairs.
Mike Finn is a well known local businessman, who with Kakulas Brothers, every day proves that heritage works if done properly. Peter Scott is an enthusiast who sourced the important drone images of King's Square we have been sharing with you. Agnieshka Kiera like many people is travelling a lot these days, but is still available as former Fremantle Council's heritage architect for 25 years to guide our deliberations. Robert Bodkin has his heart and soul in Fremantle, and will repair your sole at his shoe shop at 74 High Street. Ian Molyneux is also a former heritage architect for Fremantle as well as having been the inaugural Chairman of the Heritage Council in its heyday. Jeremy Bean Is a serious government bureaucrat, and one of the few Fremantle people left who still wears a suit and tie.
Thanks to Don Whittington for running the raffle at the AGM, to former committee member Pat Baker for getting the *x+#^*x projector to work, for the valuable help again of Val Cousins, and to the Fremantle Tennis Club.
The Power of Patience, and the Peril of Pace
We were honoured to have at the AGM conservation architect Chris Patterson of Palassis Architects give us a presentation entitled: The Power of Patience, and the Peril of Pace, highlighting the merits of taking time to understand your heritage site, and the client's needs before moving into a construction phase. In a busy, busy world it is important to use the Burra Charter, seek options that are best practice, bearing in mind that while exceptional outcomes are rare, very good outcomes should always be the target.
