Thanks for coming along to the High Country Comeback last Sunday, and thanks also for signing up for our farmers' markets newsletter while you were there! 

This is our weekly update on fresh seasonal produce, a feature market you might want to visit, and a list of all the farmers' markets in the coming week.  (If that's not for you, there's an unsubscribe option at the end of this email.)

Weekly feature: direct from the farmers

Blueberries, basil and quark
Local blueberries: Ever tasted freshly-harvested local blueberries?  They’re in season now. Moondarra Blueberries is a family farm in Gippsland growing certified organic blueberries, and they’ve just introduced gorgeous compostable packaging too.  They’ll be at Collingwood on Saturday.
 
Pots of basil: A pinch or two of fresh basil can add a delicious twist to fruit salads as well as savory dishes.  Pick up a pot of basil grown by Nillumbik growers The Mushroom Shed at Coburg or Eltham, and have it fresh and on-hand when it’s needed.
 
Fresh Quark: For a tangy fresh cream cheese, try the certified organic Quark made in Timboon by independent farmers Schulz Organic Dairy.   Quark is a German style cheese similar to mascarpone, but it contains the ABC cultures of a yogurt to give it a mild tartness. Find some at Coburg, Collingwood, Alphington or Eltham.

Collingwood Children’s Farm Farmers Market is held on the second Saturday every month, one of a circuit of accredited farmers’ markets in the City of Yarra, including first Saturday at Carlton North Primary, and fourth Saturday at Abbotsford Convent. 

At the February markets you’ll find seasonal fruit and vegies including zucchini, stonefruit, blueberries, melons, and leafy greens all direct from the growers. Stock up on delicious salad greens from Gippsland producers Oz Fresh.  Proteins are sorted by free-range farmers and fishers such as Mike from Westernport Mussels. And to meet Melbourne’s brekkie expectations, you can rely on great coffee, freshly squeezed orange juice, toasties and Q le Baker and his French artisanal pastries.

These markets are committed to going waste free so don’t forget to BYO. If you forget your own, you can Boomerang Bag it, and borrow a cup to just drop it back to the Wash Against Waste station nearby.
