Supporting farmers and food businesses this weekend

Most of our accredited Victorian farmers' markets are running this weekend, and they've all introduced measures to increase social distancing and minimise contact!  They're such a proactive community, all so committed to keeping you healthy and connected to your food producers

The full list of markets on this weekend is at the end of this newsletter.

Garlic, corn and bacon

Punchy garlic: Gordon-based farm Harmony Garlic will have their seasonal garlic at Coburg, Flemington and Nagambie markets this weekend.  Try their smoked garlic crushed with a little salt and mixed into mayonnaise for a quick dressing.

Sweet corn: A true seasonal delight, stock up on fresh sweet corn grown in Cardinia by Jonella Farm at Gasworks market on Saturday and Mount Eliza market on Sunday.  Follow autumnal instincts - buy enough to eat fresh as well as to preserve for later.

Smoked sausage:  Ben’s superpower is making bacon – and smoked chorizo and kranskys and award-winning fresh sausages, all from locally-reared animals. Catch up with La Villa Salumi at Flemington market on Sunday.

Episode 5: Rose Street Pantry - the TV series
On this week’s episode of Rose Street Pantry they’re off to Collingwood Farmers Market! It’s the perfect place to shop organic and seasonally. Farmers Markets are an important link between producers and consumers - they offer an opportunity for consumers to meet the faces behind the products they love and a platform for them to inquire and learn about the foods they eat.

And while they are there - they’ll be chatting to father and son duo, John and Tony Dench. From their humble beginnings in North Fitzroy to a bakehouse that now supplies cafes, restaurants and independent grocers with handmade organic sourdough, pastries and cakes - Dench is a much loved part of Melbourne’s inner north.

Thanks to sponsor @nasaaorganic and partners Melbourne Farmers Market and Vic Farmers Market for helping to bring these stories to life.  Tune in to C31 (44 on free to air) Sunday 2pm, Monday 11.30pm, Thursday at 8am or Saturday night at 9pm.
