Direct from the farmers

Stonefruit, strawberries and squash
Juicy strawberries: Pick up punnets full of juicy perfumed local strawberries grown in Wandin by Kookaberry Farms from their shared stall with Berries Direct this long weekend.  Stock up at Coburg, St Kilda Primary or Flemington.

Flavourful stonefruit: Apricots, peaches, nectarines and plums are all coming into season at Tellurian Fruit Gardens in Harcourt.  Talk to orchardist Ant Wilson to choose fruit that’s ready to eat, make into preserves, or take home and ripen over the next week.  Catch him at Castlemaine Weekly or Coburg.

Summer squash: Zucchinis and button squash herald the start of the local summer vegetable season.  They’re the fastest of the hot weather seedlings to produce, and so they’re cause for celebration, says Thriving Foods Farm’s Paul Watzlaff. Catch Paul and his family at Coburg, Berwick, Alphington and Eltham this weekend.
