Honey is mankind's sweetest gift from nature. Before the advent of beekeeping, brave souls would fight angry, swarming bees just to raid and steal the bees' delicious and highly nutritious food stores.

While many cultures around our beautiful planet include insects in their diets, modern honeybees are our only domesticated insect. They work tirelessly in our food systems pollinating the majority of our crops. Without bees, our food system would fall over.

In the chilly, damp days of winter, bees' incredible work throughout the year can be enjoyed not only as honey on your morning toast but also beeswax candles to light the darkness. Honey's antibacterial properties can keep bugs at bay and heal wounds. Bees are both wonderful and amazing!

Victoria produces fantastic honey. Look for a VFMA-accredited honey producer this week at your local farmers' market. Local Macedon producer Wondermazing Honey will be at Riddells Creek Farmers' Market this Saturday.
