direct from our farmers this week:
fresh chicken, white daikon and fennel sausages

Roast chicken:  Proper pasture-raised chicken is absolutely full of flavour and stays moist when baked or roasted – and because the farmers bring it to the market fresh, it’s ready to cook when you are.  Buy Yapunyah’s Meadow-Grazed chicken at Nagambie and Sunday dinner (and Monday lunch) is sorted.

Versatile daikon: White daikon radishes, complete with fresh green tops, are in season at the moment.  Working well in quick stir-fries, simmering broths and simple salads, they’re the perfect vegetable for variable spring-weather cooking. Gippsland’s Thriving Foods Farm will have them at UniMelb, Coburg, Warragul, Eltham and Alphington.

Fennel sausages: Strathbogie-based Miramonte Farm’s beef and fennel sausages are delicious slow-grilled on the barbecue or braised in pasta sauces, so dinner can be cooked outdoors or snugged indoors – whatever suits the occasion.  Pick up a pack of fresh sausages at UniMelb, Euroa Village or Eltham.
