DAFFODILS

I wandered lonely as a cloud

That floats on high o’er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.
William Wordsworth (1770 - 1850)

In 1998, Adrian Van Kampen registered his business, Club Creek Bulb Farm, while still working as a telecommunications engineer. Now in a different phase of life and with engineering behind him, tubers, bulbs, flowers and plants take up Adrian's day, including the lovely daffodil that so inspired William Wordsworth. Read the whole poem here.

Located near the head of Club Creek in the Yarra Valley, the farm's daffodils grow over one and a half acres (0.6 ha) while jonquils, dahlias and liliums cover additional acreage.

Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

Daffodils and jonquils are brightening paddocks and gardens around Victoria, including at Adrian's farm. Outdoing even sparkling waves, at this time of year Adrian is offering these bunches of jocund company. Adding a sweetly heady scent and bright cheer to farmers' markets, they're a welcome portent of warmer weather after what seem like a very grey, wet and cold winter.

Flowers are another delight of the farmers' market. Find Adrian alternating between Abbotsford (this coming weekend) and Boroondara Farmers' Markets every Saturday!

And then my heart with pleasure fills.
And dances with the daffodils.
