pumpkin, persimmons, mandarins

Pumpkin pie: With at least six varieties of pumpkin being harvested at the moment, Spring Creek Organics has one for pie, soup, roasting, or stuffing and baking – there’s a guide to each type and its use on their stall, too. Read up at Coburg, Flemington or Alphington this weekend.

Persimmon salad: Non-astringent persimmons can be eaten before they’ve ripened to jelly-softness - they’re great in salads and cakes. John Howell calls his variety “honey” rather than “vanilla”, which is the more commonly-used label.  Try some at Abbotsford or Flemington and decide for yourself.
Tangy citrus: Tangy fresh new season Imperial mandarins and navel oranges are filling the stalls of The Orange Lady as we head into winter.  Pick some up and grab a scoop of their 2019 pistachio nuts while you’re there - at Bentleigh, St Kilda Primary and Flemington.

harper and blohm

Time Out Melbourne this week released their guide to Melbourne’s 10 best toasties. Harper & Blohm Cheese Shop are proud to announce that  their Barry’s Blue Grilled Cheese Sandwich is on the list.

Barry’s Blue is named after multi-ward winning Gippsland cheese maker Barry Charlton, the cheesemaker and owner of Berrys Creek Cheese.

Featuring Berrys Creek Tarwin blue cheese, thin shavings of pear, the bite of rocket and crunch of walnut. With Dench Bakery organic sourdough – toasted golden to perfection and served with a sprinkle of Mount Zero salt.

You can congratulate the team and try one yourself at Lancefield or Alphington this weekend!

2040 now showing

Today Madman Films are releasing the new feature-length documentary 2040 from Damon Gameau (That Sugar Film):

"2040 is a positive, hopeful and empowering antidote to the doomsday predictions of the planet’s environmental destiny, 2040 explores what the future would look like if we simply embraced the best solutions that exist today.

2040 looks at sustainable farming and agricultural practices that could help slow the rate of climate change. It’s a positive angle that looks at some of the solutions that could combat the effects of the environmental problems our planet is facing."

You can watch the trailer or review the regenerative principles the film looks at (we highly recommend looking through these).
