Enjoying the seasons and the cooler weather

The photo above just looks like a visual recipe for a delicious soup, doesn't it?

The cooler weather is an invitation to rug-up and stock-up on all the produce around the farmers' markets this week.

Take the vegetables, above - they're just one part of that delicious soup that can be picked up at the markets.  There should be some butter or olive oil to slow-cook the leek in. Wine can be used to deglaze the pan. Consider stock as the base for the soup - there might even be some ready-made at your local farmers' market. Then some fresh herbs to set the tone - fresh and zingy or mellow and aromatic?  Add some dairy to your bowl to add extra flavour - quark, soft cheese, or yoghurt.  If dairy's not your thing, then a chunky nut-based pesto would work.  Some bread or flavourful crackers on the side - and there's a hearty, end-of-Autumn lunch, made with some of the best-tasting fresh and preserved produce available in Victoria.

That's worth shopping with an umbrella for, don't you think?

See you at a farmers' market this week!
