Tallarook FM - rebuilding 12 months after the Mechanics Institute fire
This weekend marks the one year anniversary since The Mechanics Institute, iconic site of the Tallarook Farmers' Market, burnt down.  On the Saturday night, the community pulled together and reorganised to run the market just down the road at the Tallarook Railway Station.
 They'll be marking the anniversary in inimitable Tallarook style so head along and show your support.

garlic, honey, olives

Local garlic: Gippsland garlic growers Weyhill Farm encourage their customers to try their hand at growing garlic – their bulbs are starting to sprout so it’s a good time to plant your own and stock up for winter too.  Pick some up at VegOut, Kingston or Flemington.
Organic honey: Living just outside Echuca is a certified organic beekeeper whose family decided they wanted to have a stall at the farmers’ market, so My Dad’s Honey was created.  Taste the Bush Mallee and Red Gum honeys at Echuca this weekend, and make sure to admire the labels – they’re designed by the kids.
Wild olives: Barrow Olives marinade their brined wild olives early on the morning of the farmers’ markets so that shoppers have fresh, garlicky olives ready to eat that night.  Stock up on their EV and infused olive oils too – they offer a refill service using their steel oil flasks. They’re at Swan Hill this Sunday then Elwood and Flemington next weekend.

Gold coin donation to the CFA; Dogs welcome on leads
Head to the city fringe of Nillumbik this Sunday for the Hurstbridge Farmers’ Market held in Fergusons Paddock.  Surrounded by bushland, the market has strong ties to the local community and features producers from the surrounding area, including: olive oil from Panton Hill Estate which is a family owned and run farm, nestled in the western hills of the Yarra Valley; beef from the Little Creek Cattle Company, established as a mixed farming enterprise in 1962; and eggs from Top Hundred Acres Free Range Farm, situated in the heart of the Plenty Valley - the farm has been in the family for three generations and counting.  Now under new management the market operates alongside the new local Makers Market, as well as a food court and entertainment from local artists, making for a great morning out in the gateway to the Yarra Valley.
