Good afternoon!

The summer has seen a variety of health & safety and food safety dramas, from the recent E-Coli outbreak to unfortunate bouncy castle incidents. In better news, the BHA have recently launched a new catering guide, the first update in 20 years. 
Here at CSC we have also been busy improving our customer experience through launching a number of updates to Complyforce.

Complyforce Updates
We are pleased to announce that our tech team have been busy working on a number of improvements to Complyforce. We have recently launched the following updates:
  • Regular news and alerts feed - The home page now features a news feed with alerts on product recalls, recent prosecution news, and other important industry news.
  • Priority ratings - Audit questions now have multiple comments and actions.
  • Automated Accidents - If any clients would like automated notification when accidents are logged, please contact the office to set this up.
  • E-learning links - sign in directly to your e-learning account. Contact us if you need to set up an account.
  • Enhanced email alerts - Relevant forms are now emailed directly to you along with your alerts.

BHA Catering Guide

For those working in the catering industry, the recent launch of the BHA Catering Guide is said to be invaluable.

The guide is the first update for 20 years and has been recognised by the Food Standards Agency and Food Standards Scotland. The guide is the result of a collaboration between food safety, hygiene and industry experts.

Prosecution News: Indian Restaurant Breaches Fire Safety
Bristol based, Bengal Raj restaurant were found guilty of breaking numerous fire safety laws. The restaurant owner was jailed for 6 months for contraventions which included failure to carry out a fire risk assessment, obstruction of fire exit routes and failure to fit an appropriate fire alarm.

E-coli Update

The recent E-coli outbreak seems to be subsiding, however, investigations into the source are still ongoing. CSC therefore advise that you continue to take precautionary actions regarding the use of mixed salad leaves until the threat has fully passed, and the source has been located.

Bouncy Castle

The first half of 2016 has witnessed two serious incidents involving children and bouncy castles. One case resulted in a toddler being sent to hospital, whereas the second case resulted in the death of a child.

Industry Update: Accidents at work
The Health and Safety Executive have recently issued an update on the accidents involving equipment at work.
It is evident that the most common accidents involve fingers and arms being severed due to entrapment with machinery in the workplace.
