Need to Know
Dear 742 Families,

We wish all families a wonderful, safe and happy winter break. Understanding that this time of year can be stressful and challenging for a variety of reasons, we wanted to provide a list of some of our vital community resources.

*If you or a loved one are having thoughts of suicide, please call 1-800-273-8255 or text MN to 741741.

Crisis Response Team
The mobile Crisis Response Team (CRT) provides an array of community-based mental health crisis services to children and adults experiencing a mental health crisis. The Crisis Response Team can travel to homes or community locations in the four-county area to help individuals in crisis cope with immediate stressors. The team can complete suicide assessments, safety planning, coping skills education, and make appropriate referrals. They also offer follow-up stabilization services District 742 Mental Health Resource Video (Available in Somali, Spanish and English)
This video highlights our school-based services/programs as well as local community-based resources. It also includes a table of contents, so that viewers may go directly to the resource/program they need.   Fast-Tracker is a virtual community and health care connection resource. It connects individuals, families, mental health and substance use disorder providers, physicians, care coordinators, and others with a real-time, searchable directory of mental health and substance use disorder resources and their availability within Minnesota.
Scanning of IDs in Cafeteria
At the start of the new trimester, Monday, December 6, students at Apollo and Tech High Schools will have their ID barcodes scanned when receiving their breakfast and lunch.

Students have their barcodes on their new student ID cards and they can also access it on their phone in the Skyward app, under “Student ID”.

Students will continue to receive one breakfast and one lunch at no cost for the remainder of the school year. If students would like to have a second lunch, they will be charged $4.15.
Our Classrooms
Code of Conduct
This week’s review of the Code of Conduct highlights the importance of attendance—and the detriment of tardiness—in determining your student’s success in school.

Because regular attendance is directly related to successful academic achievement, student absence from school should be limited to those instances in which absence is genuinely unavoidable. Absences are recorded as Excused/Unexcused and specific examples of each can be found in Board Policy 503 and in your school’s Student Handbook.

Students must report to class at the designated time. Students who do not arrive to school on time for any reason must be checked in at the main office prior to going to class. Excessive tardiness affects a student’s attendance record and academic performance.

Please be informed on attendance and tardiness procedures and work with school staff to support your student’s success.

Advisory Challenge
December DinnersNHS is doing monthly donation drives.

THANK YOU so much for your generosity and assistance with the collection of personal care items during "November Necessities." YOU all managed to help the students gather approximately 700 items which will first go to our students, with excess going to our community via the Catholic Charities Food Shelf.

This month is "Dinnertime December." Unlike last month where we really solicited the help of staff, this month we'd like to see more student involvement. For this reason, we are asking advisories to compete by bringing in food donations. Please do what you can to encourage your advisory to join in this friendly and helpful competition! See flyer for more details.
BARR Coordinator Corner
BARRAs  you recall in last month’s Tiger Times, a specific I-time was highlighted in each grade level. “I-time,” is a key tool for building assets in students. Weekly I-time activities are designed to create a positive school climate by engaging students and cohort teachers in shared activities around a variety of topics. The activities focus on students learning more about themselves and building personal strengths, or assets, that will help them become successful in life.

Since this is the first week of a new trimester, teachers are using this opportunity to facilitate students’ thinking about their trimester 1 goals and setting a new goal for trimester 2. Many times this is an academic goal, but can be other goals as well.

Ask your BARR student: Did you achieve your trimester one goal? What is your new goal for this trimester?
If you have questions or feedback about the BARR program, please get in touch with me.
