|Hello The Ones!
We hope all is well.
Welcome to the latest weekly note, where we share the 3-5 things that have us thinking. This week we're considering common sense, Dieter Rams and scientific fairytales. The world is a tough place at the moment, so it counts even more now to keep our minds sharp and our compassion broad.
WATCH: On Bunkers, Parakeets + Forbidden Cities here. With our copies of The Learner on hand, we discuss ways we deconstruct our daily experiences, however seemingly small or inconsequential, to make sure they count. 5mins.
Listen: Common Sense - a podcast series from Dan Carlin, is a ruminative exploration of current affairs. It's fairly US centric but the broader concept of politics at work goes beyond geography. Get Me A Glass Of Water is a worthwhile listen (on iTunes too), which made us think about our own culpability in looking the other way when things are going our way...
GO: 'The products were only evolved to improve their function, not just to change their style.'; opening 15th September, Vitsoe in London will be exhibiting the private collection of Tom Strong. Over the cause of 50 years Strong was held mesmerised by the designs of Dieter Rams, head of design at Braun from 1961 to 1995. We're all collectors of something (dregs of papers at the bottom of your bag don't count), and Tom's story expresses one man's pursuit of beauty made necessary. More details are here
Quote from #TheLearner: ‘A scientist in his laboratory is not a mere technician: he is also a child confronting natural phenomena that impress him as though they were fairy tales.’ | p. 46 | Marie Curie
That's all for now. Remember, stay curious and keep learning!
