A new reading measure for 0-20 year olds and their parents

The ministère de l’Éducation et de l’Enseignement supérieur has mandated the regional consulting authorities on school perseverance and educational success in Québec (Projet PRÉE in Estrie) to collaborate with community partners on the implementation of a reading measure for 0-20 year olds and their parents.

This new measure, recurrent for a period of three years, has three main objectives:

  1. Promoting awareness and interest in reading among 0-9 year olds;
  2. Increase and maintain interest in reading among 10 to 20 year olds;
  3. Strengthen parenting skills in reading and enhance reading and writing skills for parents with little schooling.

For more details on the implementation of the reading measure, you can consult the following document, available in French only: Mesure en lecture : Favoriser, accroître et maintenir l’intérêt pour la lecture chez les 0-20 ans et leurs parents.

Determinants of school perseverance
What factors influence school perseverance and educational success of young people? Last year more than 150 partners from the Estrie region participated in the training « Effective Action on the Determinants of School Perseverance and Educational Success…We Must Do It Together ».  You didn’t have the opportunity to participate in this training? Our colleagues from the Partners for Educational Success in Chaudière-Appalaches have produced video capsules (available in French only) that present each of the determinants and how you can act on them.
March is Nutrition Month
During this month of nutrition let us recall the importance of a healthy diet and an active lifestyle in the development of our youth. The integration of a healthy lifestyle promotes self-esteem and fulfillment, aspects that are crucial for educational success. Parents have an important role to play in their children’s lifestyle. To find out how they can take action, consult the following two articles (in French only) on the ParentEstrie website:
ParentEstrie.com was designed in order to provide a resource directory for parents in the Estrie.  As it serves as a type of virtual library that centralises and condenses the best references and content, this site contains interesting and pertinent information for anyone working with young people and their families.
Call for projects : « My lunch, my friends, my school »

Québec en Forme, through its Communauté branchée et réseautée initiative, invites schools from the Mauricie, Estrie and Montreal regions to submit a project aimed at the transformation of environments that will benefit the healthy lifestyle of students and improve the context in which our youth eat their meals at school.

If your project is selected you could receive up to $5,000 in financial support. Applications must be received no later than 5pm on April 14, 2017.
