Unveiling of the Léger survey data
Young people aged 6 to 8 persevere thanks to the people around them, but their degree of motivation is dependent on several factors
|
|
This morning, the Réseau québécois pour la réussite éducative (RQRÉ) unveiled the results of a survey of parents of children between the ages of 6 and 18 which aimed to shed light on the impact the pandemic has had on the educational motivation of young people.
Nearly a year has passed since the start of the pandemic, and 70% of Quebec parents surveyed believe their children remain motivated about their educational achievement. However, motivation is lower among high school youth (63%), 17- and 18-year-olds (62%), and those from lower income families.
As for the things keeping young people motivated :
- Relationships with friends (28%)
- The support and encouragement of family (22%)
- The attainment of a specific goal (19%)
Since the start of the new school year, certain issues have impacted this motivation. More than half of parents (52%) identify a lack of contact with their friends as the main issue facing young people. Other issues they identified include the stopping of activities, sports, and recreation (35%), and the effort of maintaining educational motivation (33%). Both the motivators and obstacles encountered seem to differ by age.
