VOLUME 1 ISSUE 15
ON THE HILL
I have been busy these past couple of weeks in Ottawa and now I'm back in Saskatoon.  I had many community leaders visit my office in Ottawa for meetings; including representatives from the Association of Consulting Engineering Companies, the community organization UNITY, and representatives from the Agriculture industry.  As an MP, it is important to stay connected with all community groups and leaders, to understand how I can best represent Saskatoon-Grasswood in Ottawa.

I have also had the opportunity to speak in the House on a variety of issues. Please scroll through my newsletter to view these.  This week is Veterans week and I had the opportunity to visit the Nutana Legion in Saskatoon.  On Friday, November 11th I will be at the Remembrance Day ceremonies in Saskatoon at the SaskTel Centre.  As always please don't hesitate to call or stop by my office if you have any questions or concerns.

NUTANA LEGION
Above:  Shirley Timpson kindly volunteers her time in the artifacts room at the Nutana Legion.  Shirley guided me on a tour of the many artifacts and memorabilia.  Thank you Shirley!
The Legion was born in November 1925 in Winnipeg.  As veterans began returning from overseas, new organizations sprang up.  Since 1925 a total of 376 branches have been formed and 127 have been closed, leaving 249 branches remaining, although some of these are no longer active.  Nutana Branch #362 was organized in 1954.  A group of Legion veterans in Saskatoon Branch 63 came to the conclusion Saskatoon was big enough to have at least two Legion Branches.

On March 7, 1954 veterans held an initial meeting in the St. James Anglican Parish Hall on Dufferin Avenue at 12th Street.  The Branch was organized on April 4th.  In the spring of 1955, the Legion purchased Bethel United Church at 1141 5th St. East.  In 1965, the Branch hall at 2326 McEown Avenue was purchased and subsequently renovated.  This property was sold in 1987 and the property at 3021 Louise Street was purchased, the current home of the Nutana Legion.
