VOLUME 2 ISSUE 7
ON THE HILL
The last two weeks have flown by since my last newsletter.  It began with the Minister of Finance’s lackluster Budget 2017, which I won’t get into here but you can see my response on my website.  In Committee, we continue to work on the Report to Parliament on the media and local communities.
The Liberal House Leader is proposing substantial changes to the rules governing the House of Commons which the Opposition parties are opposing.  I am very concerned about these proposed changes and recently attended a Procedure and House Affairs meeting arguing the merits and importance of Parliamentary traditions.
My week in Ottawa was followed by another great week in the constituency.  I spent time with students at a variety of schools and I certainly learned a lot; most importantly that kids are very smart and eager to learn.
I also had the opportunity to attend celebrations for the 50th anniversary of Saskatoon Centennial Lions Club, the 80th anniversary of Saskatoon Downtown Lions Club and the 100th anniversary of Lions Clubs International.  This is a wonderful organization that is dedicated to the communities they serve and especially those suffering from blindness.  Congratulations to all!
Mariah Hillis is the newest recipient of the Saskatoon-Grasswood Canada 150 Award.  Keep those nominations coming in.
As always, I and my team are here to serve.  Give us a call or stop by if you need assistance.

Kevin Waugh, MP
Saskatoon-Grasswood

NEWS FROM THE HILL
Above Left:  I had a very productive and informative meeting with Harris Boyd and Jay Thomson, CEO of Canadian Cable Systems Alliance (CCSA).  The CCSA represents more than 115 independent communication companies serving Canadians from coast to coast to coast.  CCSA's members connect Canadians, generally outside urban markets to the internet, to television programming and to other important telecommunications services.
FEATURED STAFF MEMBER - CARMEL (BOBBIE) MARTIN
I joined Kevin’s team, in the Ottawa office, in February of 2016, as his part-time Parliamentary Assistant.  I have worked on the Hill since 1999 with MP's from one end of the country to the other.  Five years ago I decided to try out retirement but soon learned it wasn’t quite for me so I am fortunate to have struck a happy balance with Team Waugh.

I do a variety of jobs such as writing, researching, accompanying Kevin to Committee and anything else that needs doing during my three days a week.  We have a dedicated team and are here to share news with constituents on Federal issues and programs.  Kevin is a great team leader and a very hard-working MP so it is easy to come to work and support the effort.

I along with my colleagues in the Saskatoon office and Lisa here in Ottawa, are ready, willing and able to assist the constituents of Saskatoon-Grasswood with any issues involving the Federal Government.  Don’t hesitate to give us a call.

HERITAGE IN THE COMMUNITY
VIMY MEMORIAL
501 SPADINA CRES. E.
The 1937 Vimy Memorial, also referred to as the Vimy Memorial Bandshell, was built in honour of Canada’s participation in the First World War at the 1917 Battle of Vimy Ridge. The battle involved four Canadian divisions, 120,000 men, and resulted in numerous Canadian casualties. Vimy Ridge was the first significant Canadian victory of the First World War. The battle, and its success, was one of the rites of passage for Canada as it moved from colony to nation. Today, the memorial continues to be an important landmark, and is often used for organized public meetings, public concerts, and weddings.
