Last week, my Private Members' Bill had second reading in the House of Commons. Debate took place on Monday and I fought to get the Government to see the importance of this bill. Unfortunately, my bill was defeated last Wednesday. I would like to thank all of the opposition members who voted in support of my Bill, as well as the many individuals from schools, school boards, and school authorities across Canada who offered letters of support. This will not be the end and I will continue to advocate for schools across Canada. Please see the video below for more information.
During this past week I met with several important community leaders, including representatives from the Canadian Pharmacist Association, the Saskatoon Region Association of Realtors, and the Saskatchewan Credit Unions. It was great to meet with diverse groups of individuals and learn about their many contributions to their communities and Canada.
Please continue reading the newsletter for more on what's going on in Ottawa, as well as some exciting news from our community.

We are saddened by the loss of former Member of Parliament and Alberta Premier Jim Prentice. Mr. Prentice was first elected to politics as the Conservative MP for Calgary-Centre-North in 2004 until 2010 when he stepped down and later pursued a provincial political career, becoming leader of the Alberta Conservatives and the Alberta Premier from 2014-2015.

CONSULTATION ON NATIONAL SECURITY
|
|
The Government has a dual responsibility when it comes to national security:
1. To keep Canadians safe, at home and abroad.
2. To preserve and protect the rights and freedoms which shape our open,
inclusive, and democratic country.
The Government wants to hear your opinions and ideas on how to continue to fulfill this dual responsibility in a world of uncertainty, risk, and rapid change.
Input from Canadians is being collected online and through in-person events across the country.
The Government will accept online input until December 1, 2016.

The Teachers Institute on Canadian Parliamentary Democracy will be held in Ottawa from October 30 - November 4th. 85 educators from across the country will be attending. As part of the program, participants have the opportunity to meet with parliamentarians. The objective is to let teachers learn about Parliament directly from legislators and to see the institution from the point of view of those who work within it.
