VOLUME 1 ISSUE 17
ON THE HILL
This time of year is often used to reflect on those who are important and as your MP I would like to take this time to focus on those who are important to our community of Saskatoon-Grasswood.  Bill Waiser is one of those individuals, receiving the Governor General's ward last month for his book, A World We Have Lost: Saskatchewan before 1905 and his work researching the history of our province.  I also met with grade 6-8 students at St. Luke School, the younger leaders in our community.

If you know of an individual in the Saskatoon-Grasswood riding that you believe has made our community and Canada as a whole a better place, I encourage you to nominate that individual for the Saskatoon-Grasswood Canada 150 Citizen Award. Nomination forms can be found online or in the office in Saskatoon.

These past few weeks we have also been wrapping up our research for the Heritage Committee report on media.  As a Member of Parliament, my work in committee is important for contributing to informed government decisions. Our report will be available in the New Year.

Again, if you have a question or concern, please do not hesitate to contact or stop by my office.

Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

Kevin Waugh, MP
Saskatoon-Grasswood

**CORRECTION** WINTER 2016 PAMPHLET
The Winter 2016 pamphlet that you received recently has an error on the last page.  In the "Did you Know?" article there is a web address for an e-petition.  The petition number should have read 548 rather than 584.  We regret any inconvenience this may have caused.

NEWS FROM THE COMMUNITY
IN MEMORY OF ROGER PARENT
We are deeply saddened by the loss of Roger Parent, MLA Saskatoon Meewasin.  Roger was first elected to the Saskatchewan Legislature in 2011.  Prior to entering politics, Roger was a business consultant working with a variety of organizations developing aboriginal businesses around the province.  Roger was a tireless volunteer and he walked many miles and knocked on many doors for me in the 2015 Federal Election contributing to my successful campaign.  I could always count on him.  Heartfelt prayers and deepest sympathies for his family at this time.
16 DAYS OF ACTIVISM AGAINST GENDER VIOLENCE
Carl Melnyk represented Kevin at the Orange Campaign rally held at the Prairie Wind Sculpture River Landing, marking the 16 Days of Activism, calling for the end of violence against women and girls.  This event was organized by Grandmothers Advocacy Network (GRAN).

HERITAGE IN THE COMMUNITY
SASKATOON FORESTRY FARM PARK & ZOO
The Forestry Farm Park and Zoo first opened in 1913 as Sutherland Forest Nursery Station.  It received designation in 1990.  New settlement on the prairies prompted the Forestry Branch of the Department of the Interior to open a tree nursery station and model farm at the location.  Until 1966 the nursery station tested shrubs, distribued millions of seedlings to new farmers and demonstrated horticulture techniques to new settlers on the prairies.  The property housed staff residences, a greenhouse, a blacksmith shop and a barn, which have all been converted for use within the Saskatoon Zoo today.
