Darrell Jordan for
County Criminal Court at Law 16

Dear Precinct Chair:

I am seeking your nomination on June 30 to become your candidate for Judge of County Criminal Court at Law No.16. For over a decade, I’ve worked as an prosecutor/defense attorney in service to both Harris County and The United States Army. I began my career as a policy analyst for State Representative Hubert Vo during the 79th legislative session and went on to work in the 80th legislative session as legal counsel for State Senator Rodney Ellis.

Today, I am a criminal defense attorney and have been fortunate to try cases at every level of the judicial system, including those held in Traffic, Misdemeanor, Felony, and Federal Court. I also served as a prosecutor in the Army Reserves for six years and am now in my fifteenth year of service to our country with the Texas National Guard based at Camp Mabry.

Addressing Pressing Issues With Action

I want to use my experience as a prosecutor, defense attorney, and policy analyst to improve our court system. Over the years, I have witnessed the pressing issue of high recidivism rates among felons. In order to make Houston a safer city, focused attention needs to be given to these defendants at the misdemeanor level. I have identified the following issues and will take the following actions if nominated.

  • Issue 1: Young defendants on probation often lack guidance and supervision

    • Most misdemeanor courts are closed after lunch, unless there is a trial. I will use my afternoon to monitor defendants ages 17-21 who are on deferred adjudication probation. I want to personally supervise them instead of having them meet with over burdened probation officers.  With this hands on approach, I can help them understand how serious the ramifications of a conviction are as well as determine which resources are needed for the successful completion of their probation.

  • Issue 2: Predetermined bond schedules are increasing crowding in the Harris County jail

    • I will personally interview each defendant and determine the appropriate bond instead of using a predetermined bond schedule, which leads to extended jail stays for the poor.

I’ve detailed two examples of actions I will take to make Harris County a safer place and ensure justice is applied in a JUST and FAIR manner. I welcome the opportunity to meet with you to further discuss my plans and answer any questions you may have. My contact information is listed below, please don’t hesitate to give me a call. I look forward to earning your vote and working to turn Harris County blue!
