Upcoming workshops and events
The WRF Data Science Studio will be closed Monday, Jan. 16, in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Join host Ed Lazowska for the CSE Distinguished Lecture, also on Tuesday, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the Paul G. Allen Center Atrium. The lecture will feature Chris Stolte, co-founder of Tableau.

Wednesday, Jan. 18, the Executive Committee will meet in the Studio from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.

Paul Ginsparg will speak on "Adventures in little data" at the next Data Science Seminar. Join us Jan. 18 from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in Johnson Hall, room 102.

The Education Working Group will also meet Wednesday in the Studio from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.

The Azure for Research Immersion Day will be in the Studio on Thursday, Jan. 19 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Lunch will be served for the postdocs and grad students on Thursday in the Studio from 12 to 1 p.m.

The Software Journal Club meets on Thursday as well, in the Studio from 3 to 4 p.m. and will feature Ariel Rokem on code review and a discussion of 

The Community Seminar will take place Thursday from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. in Architecture Hall, room 147. The talk will feature Tim Hesterberg on "Life at Google."

Save the date: Executive Director Sarah Stone will present on "Data Science for the Social Good" Jan. 24 from 4 to 5 p.m. as part of the Hacking the Academy Program Series, Research Commons, Green A.
Presidential Early Career Award
Emily Fox, data science fellow, has been awarded the Presidential Early Career Award, considered the highest honor bestowed upon scientists by the White House. Further reading: White House | CSE.
Fulbright Award
Cecilia Aragon, senior data science fellow, has won a Fulbright Award to teach and research in Chile. Aragon and Data Science for Social Good alum Meg Drouhard also recently had their paper "Visual analytics for chat and social media" presented at the Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences.
