Sociology
On May 9th, Governor Jay Inslee signed Senate Bill 5600 into law which extends the evictions pay-or-vacate notice in Washington from three days to 14 days. The Washington Evictions Research Project, led by postdoctoral fellow Tim Thomas, alumni Anisha Keshavan, and other UW researchers, provided groundbreaking empirical evidence for stakeholders and policymakers to use to get this legislation passed through the house and senate.
Reproducibility workshop
Register now for "Writing reproducible & executable scientific papers with R & Python: a hands-on workshop," an event co-sponsored by the UW eScience Special Interest Group on Reproducible Research and Open Source Software and the UW Libraries. This workshop is aimed at researchers who write empirical journal articles and want to make it easier for others assess the validity of their work, reuse their work in new research, and enhance public trust in research.
In the news
Data science fellow Sean Gibbons is quoted in the MIT News article "How a declining environment affects populations."

Please submit items for the weekly newsletter to Robin Brooks at rebrooks@uw.edu by noon on Thursday for inclusion in the regular Friday mailing.
