Upcoming workshops and events
On Tuesday, Dec. 13, the postdocs and graduate students' lunch featuring Mahesh Somashekhar will be held from 12 to 1 p.m. in the WRF Data Science Studio.

On Wednesday, Dec. 14, the Education Working Group will meet in the Studio from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.

The Software Working Group will meet in the Studio on Thursday, Dec. 15, from 3 to 4 p.m.

The Institute recently hosted UW's first GeoHackWeek, an event focused on tutorials and collaboration on geospatial research.
Press coverage
Sham Kakade, eScience senior data scientist, and Abraham D. Flaxman, assistant professor at the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation, have published a paper on “Canonical correlation analysis for analyzing sequences of medical billing codes.” Find a pre-print in the Cornell University Library.

Ed Lazowska, founding director of the Institute, was quoted in The Seattle Times' article "How Seattle became ‘Cloud City’: Amazon and Microsoft are leading a tech revolution."

The Seattle Times also quoted Mark Hallenbeck, eScience senior data scientist, in their piece "Fancy a weekend jaunt? Seattle, Portland booms put I-5 drivers in a jam."
