Upcoming workshops and events
Join us for a special seminar on Monday, Jan. 29, at 11:30 a.m. in the WRF Data Science Studio. Jose Hernandez of the Community Center for Education Results will speak on “Leveraging community expert and stakeholder input to derive insights from data”.

Ed Lazowska, founding director, will host a discussion on "Troublemakers: Silicon Valley's Coming of Age", on Monday, Jan. 29, at 4:30 p.m. in the Husky Union Building, room 214.

Lunch for the postdocs and graduate students will be at noon on Tuesday, Jan. 30, in the Studio. Rory Barnes and Fabio Governato will give a virtual reality demo.

This week's Community Seminar will feature Vikas Pejaver speaking on "Data science for rare genetic diseases". Join at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 30,  in the Physics/Astronomy Auditorium, room A118.

Distinguished Staff Award Nominations

In the news
Rob Fatland, UW director of cloud and data solutions, gave a well-received talk on research computing, including cloud and data security for personal information, to a group of information technology and medical research professionals at the VA Medical Center Jan. 18. 

Neurohackweek 2017 is referenced in Data Science Tidings' article "Our final Kaggle Dataset Publishing Awards winners’ interviews".

The work of Kate Starbird, affiliate, is featured in The Atlantic's piece "Trump and Russia both seek to exacerbate the same political divisions" and in Mashable's "A new study reveals how Russian trolls manipulated our Twitter conversations".
