EU Health Policy Discussions - Vaccine Hesitancy
Vaccination is one of the most cost-effective health interventions available, saving millions of people from illness, disability and death each year. EU Member States spend on average 3% of their health budgets on reduction and protection against a range of serious diseases by immunization. However, different population groups targeted by vaccination often express fear and loss of trust due to a lack of understanding about disease prevention. This can cause major problems for immunization programs because insufficient uptake can compromise herd immunity.

Discover more about EHMA Programme Directors' Meeting
Post graduate health management programmes lie at the very heart of EHMA, from the Association's foundation in 1982 until today. Indeed, thirty-five years on and that focus remains a core aspect of the EHMA work programme with our Programme Directors' Network.
In February, the PD Network had its annual meeting in Germany to discuss current challenges and strategic issues for postgraduate health management programmes.

The Editor's Pick
In this new feature Federico Lega, Editor in Chief of EHMA Health Services Management Research Journal, discusses his monthly editor's pick:
"Medical managers’ managerial self-efficacy and role clarity: How do they bridge the budgetary participation–performance link?"
by Macinati, Cantaluppi e Rizzo.
The article addresses a key issue for the management of modern healthcare organizations. The ongoing shift from iatocracies and professional bureaucracies toward a more management-driven organisational model, calling for stronger rather than less engagement from clinicians. Without an effective exercise of leadership by doctor-managers, healthcare organisations struggle in balancing their strategic focus among quality, outcomes, efficiency, and economics.

The Brussels' Bubble
On 25th March 2017, the European Union will celebrate its 60th anniversary. As the EU marks this new milestone, the European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker presented the Commission’s White Paper on the future of Europe. Outlining the main opportunities and challenges in the coming decade, including ageing population, the Paper sets out five illustrative scenarios, each providing a different vision of the Union’s future. Discover more about the possible evolution paths and download the White Paper.
We would also like to share with you ‘Planting Fresh Ideas’, an initiative by Humane Society International on healthy and sustainable diets and on the health impacts of overconsumption of animal source foods.
