The EHMA 2019 Annual Conference on Health Management 2.0, was held on 17th-19th June 2019 at Aalto University, Espoo, Finland and hosted by the Helsinki University Hospital (HUS) and the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL).

The conference gathered more than 350 international healthcare managers, professionals, researchers and policy makers. The delegates came together from across the world to learn new skills, share ideas and acquire effective practices on health management.

A total of twelve parallel abstract sessions, four interactive discussion sessions, eleven partner sessions, and two keynote presentations took place, as well as the final presentations of the EHMAthon & Business Model and Healthtech Innovations competition. Additionally, a vibrant Health Lab exhibition area was organised to allow delegates to discover cutting-edge research, industry initiatives and projects, and abstract presenters to share their research results through poster pitching.
At this year's Annual Conference, we had the pleasure of hosting two exceptional keynote speakers: Prof. Federico Lega, University of Milan, Italy and Dr. Elia Stupka, Life Sciences Business, Health Catalyst, USA. Each presentation was thought-provoking and inspirational, addressing core aspects of European healthcare change agenda. We are pleased to share with you the video extracts with the highlights of their keynotes:

Prof. Federico Lega - Health Management reloaded: beyond rhetoric and myths
Dr. Elia Stupka - How data impacts lives: towards a zero patients vision by 2030

EHMAthon & Business Model and Healthtech Innovations Competition
Following the success of the first edition which took place at the EHMA 2018 Conference and to keep supporting young professionals and students in expressing their innovative ideas, EHMA organizes the second edition of the EHMAthon in 2019, in the framework of its EHMA 2019 Conference in Espoo, Finland.

THE EHMATHON 2019 was organised in partnership with Business Model and Healthtech Innovations. For the 2019 edition, the EHMATHON group was composed of students studying medicine, bio IT, industrial engineering and information networks. EHMATHON partner companies gave the students, grouped in teams, a real healthcare challenge to solve. The teams brainstorm together to find innovative solutions to the selected challenge and their ideas will be presented during the final plenary at the EHMA 2019 Annual Conference. The the EHMATHONERS brainstormed on ”Ecologically sustainable medication: How can we reduce the ecological impact of medicines?”
The winners of the EHMAthon & Business Model and Healthtech Innovations Competition are: Rami Kurimo, Maria Haukka, Oona Kivalo, Pirta Salojärvi and Aarne Talvela who presented "How doctors can promote more sustainable medicine usage?" Congratulations and best wishes for your next adventures!

Among other great targets reached in Espoo, the EHMA 2019 Annual Conference saw plenty of activity over Twitter and other social media, giving to our participants the opportunity to share their views on 'Health Management 2.0' and improving the already amazing results obtained in Budapest in 2018.

With over 500 tweets in three days, 350+ likes, more than 700 visualisations for our live streamed Periscope videos, and more than 110k impressions on Twitter, #EHMA2019 reached a massive social media audience, allowing the Conference to be trending topic in Finland for three days in a row!

To relive the experience, have a look at our Periscope channel and discover our EHMA 2019 Social Media Wakelet album, featuring key interactions and highlights from Espoo.
Last year, a number of green initiatives were launched at the EHMA 2018 Annual Conference to ensure that #EHMA2018 was our most environmentally sustainable conference.

At #EHMA2019 we stayed determined to continue on this sustainable trend! The wooden frames in the exhibition area were built from recycled wood. Delegates received a biodegradable bottle to fill up with Finnish tap water to avoid any use of single-use plastic. The Conference pens were made from recycled bottles and lanyards from recycled fabric.

This year we were pleased to propose our delegates an extra programme which helped to explore the beauty of the destination of EHMA 2019 and left a legacy behind. EHMA 2019 delegates could choose between: Morning Charity Runs, Bird-watching tour and Architecture tour. They could relax and enjoy the company of their peers and create the community of engaged healthcare professionals.

All participants of EHMA 2019 conference were invited to the Welcome Reception at the Espoo Cultural Centre hosted by the Mayor of the City of Espoo!

This year our delegates forgot about their gala outfits and left the high heels and ties at home. The social dinner took place in Nuuksio National Park where participants could explore the beauty of Finnish nature during the White nights season and dive in the midsummer tradition. This time was full of joy and informal friendly chats.

Follow our news, that will be released shortly, join us and be part of a positive impact in healthcare via #EHMA2020.
