President's Press

New Committee for a New SKAL Year.

It’s great to see new younger members step up wanting to be part of the management of our Hobart Club.

We have a new Vice President  - Sarah Thomas and two new faces on the committee - Jen Fitzpatrick and Ken Stronach (although Ken’s not that young - only young at heart)

Thank you to the people who attended the AGM and the lunch at Wrest Point - sadly the wind was too great to eat outside - but it was a good day anyway ending up at Shippies for the afternoon.  Thank You Wrest Point for some great food indeed - you wart to a lot of trouble for us.

There are three things I want to raise:

The National Assembly of Australian Clubs is on next weekend in Port Douglas and three of us are attending - Alfred as part of the National Committee, Sarah Thomas as the Vice President and I - and so if there is anything you want raised at that forum you only have to contact me.

Secondly - our calendar - please register for the Beach Clean Up Day Sunday April 30th  and the Golf Day, Monday March 27th - we really need your support and both are a lot of fun.

Thirdly - we have to make some changes to our lunch patterns to attract more of you to attend.  This is a basically a great networking organisation based around the philosophy of “doing business amongst friends” - but if you  don’t come,  then the networking opportunity disappears.

I know we polled our members last year for suggestions and we acted on them   - but I would appreciate feedback about why the numbers are low at our monthly meetings.  as a committee we can improve our game and get the venues and invites sorted out further in advance - but surely its in your calendar that the third Wednesday of every month is SKAL.

Looking forward to catching up with you soon.

Yours in SKAL,

Edward Gauden, CEO of Foodbank Tasmania, receiving a cheque from President David Reed and Committee Member Mohammad Aldergham, at the February AGM held at Wrest Point.

Last November, the SKAL International Hobart luncheon was held at Foodbank Warehouse in Derwent Park, to show support to an organisation that help and support community organisations throughout Tasmania. The day was deemed a success by all attendees thanks to the generosity of our members, most notably our own Waji Spiby, Tom Ellis, Tom McDevitt and the support of HypeTV, TasTAFE, 911 Bottle Shops who made the event the success it was. Edward Gauden, the Chair and CEO for Foodbank of Tasmania, received the cheque during our February luncheon held at Wrest Point. “Thanks to generosity of SKAL International Hobart members and interest in what we do, the $3500 donation was used to purchase enough breakfast cereal for almost 5000 meals and will be served through Foodbank of Tasmania’s School Breakfast Program. This program reaches 90+ schools throughout Tasmania” Mr Gauden said. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive about this event, that the committee is currently discussing putting it back on this year’s calendar which will be towards the end of the year…stay tuned!
