Win or Lose
In the past few days, 11/3-5/2020, there has been nearly nonstop news about who won the elections.  Did one party retain the House of Representatives?  Did the other retain the Senate?  Who won the Drain Commissioner in your county?  And, of course, the biggest question to many is who will be our President for the next 4 years?
Don’t get me wrong, I believe these are important questions and I am sure someone can make a case for why I should care about the Drain Commissioner.  The Bible tells us to pray for our leaders:
I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity.
1 Timothy 2:1-2 NLT
If you’re feeling like a winner, or perhaps a loser, let me remind you of another scripture:
But thank God! He has made us his captives and continues to lead us along in Christ’s triumphal procession. Now he uses us to spread the knowledge of Christ everywhere, like a sweet perfume. Our lives are a Christ-like fragrance rising up to God…
2 Corinthians 2:14-15 NLT
We are in the Victory Parade of Christ – as His people, we are on the winning side, regardless of the outcome of the elections.  We are also to walk in this parade of Christ-followers in such a way that we leave a sweet fragrance of Christ as we move among the world.
We have a couch in our home that belonged to my parents.  When I enter the room where that couch sits, I can smell my mother’s perfume.  It’s a reminder of my mom and the life she lived.   It is a sweet memory.  What kind of fragrance are we leaving behind?  A sour fragrance of bitterness, anger and judgment or the sweet aroma of Christ’s love, mercy and grace?
If your candidate didn’t win the Drain Commissioner position – I am truly sorry.  I hope your backyard doesn’t flood.   But I invite you to join the throngs of believers in Christ’s Victory Parade as we seek to leave the sweet aroma of God wherever we go.
In His service,
