Happy New Year!
It’s the time of year that PTAs all over the country celebrate the founding of the first PTA on February 17, 1897. Hendricks PTA celebrates 72 years of being a relevant resource for families in our school. Our PTA thrives because of the wonderful volunteers who create & execute the many programs offered throughout the year.
For those interested in participating on next year’s PTA committees, please watch for information to come soon.
In the meantime, please come enjoy milk & cookies while listening to local “stars” read to the kids during Reading with the Stars Night on Tuesday, February 7 at 6 p.m. The Book Fair will also be taking place during this event. Please visit the Media Center to shop for new reading material for your student.
The next PTA General Meeting will also be taking place prior to Reading with the Stars at 5:50 p.m. in the Auditorium.

Thank You,
Francine Shell
HAEPTA President

Make sure to check out the HAE Library website to see what our students are doing in the media center. Their enthusiasm for reading is amazing!

Reading for pleasure unlocks the power of information and imagination and helps children discover who they are. Here’s what you can do to help children develop stronger reading skills and a love for reading:
  • Set the example. Let children see you read.
  • Have a collection of books in your home. Update this collection routinely to keep pace with changing tastes and reading skills.
  • Support our school’s Book Fair. Allow your children to choose their own books to read.
Book Fair
Our Scholastic Book Fair is a reading event that brings the books kids want to read right into our school. It’s a wonderful selection of engaging and affordable books for every reading level. Please make plans to visit our Book Fair and be involved in shaping your child’s reading habits.

Friends of Hendricks Grant
Our library is continuing to grow thanks to a generous grant from the Friends of Hendricks. We were able to purchase 117 new books! The students are so excited about our new titles which include: the 2016 Newberry & Caldecott winning books, the Ivy & Bean series, the Bad Kitty Series, Minecraft Books, Princess Books, The Map to Everywhere series, more titles by Raina Telgemeier (a favorite author for many of our students), cookbooks, super hero books, Who Was books and more! Our students worked hard to put together a list of books that they wanted to see in our library. I’m so proud of their passion for books! Thanks FOH!
Student Driven Research Projects
Our students are developing Student Driven Research Projects in the Library. If you would like to find out more, visit our Project Information Page!
