At the River News
Do you know about LESLLA (Literacy Education and Second Language Learning for Adults)? This is their vision: "LESLLA supports adults with little or no home language schooling or literacy, who are now learning to read and write for the first time in a new language. We promote, on a worldwide, multidisciplinary, and multilingual basis, the sharing of research findings, effective pedagogical practices, and information on policy." Check out their website: https://www.leslla.org/our-vision
LESLLA's annual symposium is online this year, and we can attend for free. Sessions are on Thursday August 6 and Friday August 7. On Thursday, the session is about distance learning with LESLLA students, and on Friday, the session's focus is volunteers and the online learning environment. Get more information and register here: https://www.leslla.org/leslla-2020-virtual-gathering
Every other year, LESLLA meets in Europe, and every other year in the US. So this is a great opportunity to get acquainted with LESLLA without having to travel. Jaimie Newsome Irvan and I presented teaching methods for beginning literacy at the LESLLA conference in 2015 in St Augustine, FL. We had a wonderful time with this knowledgeable, compassionate group of practitioners and researchers. Our presentation is summarized in the 2015 Proceedings, found here, under St. Augustine, https://www.leslla.org/new-page
I'll be at the Thursday session - "see" you there?
