School and District News

Greetings Chapman Students and Families,

As we look back on the 2020/2021 school year, we marvel at the strength and tenacity demonstrated by Chapman students, their families, teachers and staff!  Countrywide, we persevered through in-person school closures and shifted to an entirely new way of teaching and learning. As if that weren’t overwhelming enough, we endured internet and power outages resulting in Comprehensive Distance Learning closures due to firestorms, toxic air, and snow events!  All the while, we persisted.  We persisted in connecting with peers and teachers.  We persisted connecting with friends and family, albeit online, or socially distanced in driveways or drivebys.  We did all of this without really knowing what the next day would bring, but planning for our student nonetheless. And did our staff ever plan! Between CDL, LIPI, and now Hybrid, our educators have risen to the challenge of connecting with children and making education meaningful and engaging no matter what the platform or program, while families stepped in to support students and staff. Thank you all for everything you did to help our Chapman community this year!

With gratitude,

Pamela Van Der Wolf and Aaron Martini

District Fliers:

Marathon and Fitness Series: Great Job Everyone!

Thanks so much for everyone who participated in the May Marathon and Fitness Series either from home or in person! It was amazing to see how many students were able to increase their activity levels throughout the past month and a half. We have a number of students that were able to complete the Jumping Jack Challenge, the Plank Challenge, as well as the Marathon challenge. We had 3 students who completed WELL OVER A MARATHON. What an accomplishment!

You can absolutely plan to see a version of this same opportunity happening next year...details to come. Set your goals high, aim for the sky, all you SWIFTS!

**A special thanks to all the amazing volunteers that came out to support this great opportunity, we couldn't have done it without you!

Have a great summer,
Mr. Studt

“The smallest act of kindness is worth more than the grandest intention” - Oscar Wilde

With the summer months right around the corner I was reflecting over this last year. Chapman is a very special and resilient community. I am filled with gratitude to all those who stepped forward and volunteered during this unique and challenging year. From the virtual ice cream social, room parents and parents helping out in the virtual classrooms, the book fair, the auction committee, OBOB, the garden, the marathon series, the bike fair, the PTA and Foundation, and so much more. Thank you for your efforts and willingness to make this school and community shine.

Have a great summer!

With Gratitude,
Angel Stech, Chapman PTA President

Congratulations 5th Graders!

Congratulations to Chapman's 5th graders who will be moving on to middle school next year. This year's commemorative t-shirt is student-designed and parent-funded. A special thanks to Mythandra Fenner, Kay Lee and Natalie Maciukenas for their generous support and design help!
