Launch of FERTINNOWA’s “fertigation bible”

Recently, the FERTINNOWA project presented its “Fertigation Bible” which is an encyclopedia of practical information about all aspects of fertigation. The Fertigation Bible has been prepared to provide useful practical information to the EU horticultural sector of the diverse technologies available or that soon will be available.  The information provided will be very useful for growers, technical advisors, consultants and administrators. The Fertigation Bible was made available on 28 April 2018, and is downloaded over 500 times since then.

Workshop- Sharing fertigation best practices across Europe

On Wednesday and Thursday, 3rd and 4th of October 2018, the FERTINNOWA consortium  will organise the final conference on innovation for systems and technologies related to irrigation and fertigation in horticultural production (water quality, water use efficiency, nutrient use efficiency, source water management …) in Aguadulce, Almeria, Spain.  FERTINNOWA’s final conference will offer a unique combination of practical, scientific but as well political approaches to the field of fertigation. The conference will be followed on Friday, the 5th of October by a day of field visits to greenhouse and outdoor crops, top innovative companies, and seawater desalination plants.    Visit the Conference webpage

Call for abstracts

Researchers and experts working on innovation wishing to submit a scientific contribution and participate in all activities included in the programme of the event are kindly requested to fill the online questionnaire before the 30 June 2018.

Go to the Conference page for further details.

Exhibitors willing to showcase innovative solutions, products or projects are invited to apply for a stand in the technology and practice market. For detailed information and registration please complete the registration form before 30 June 2018. Visit the Conference page for further details.

First steps towards implementation of irrigation models in Slovenia

Technologies based on the rationalization of water consumption for irrigation of apple varieties are increasingly important, but in Slovenian conditions, these technologies are entirely unexplored. CAFS, member of the FERTINNOWA consortium, and the University of Ljubljana have exchanged technologies and expertise to introduce new practices towards the apple orchards supporting irrigation. Since autumn 2017, this exchange was implemented at a Slovenian apple orchard. Find out more in our online article.

KNS system effective in reducing N-leaching in strawberry soil cultivations

On Wednesday 18 April, growers, fertilizer manufacturers, and irrigation specialists were invited at the Research Centre Hoogstraten for a workshop on reducing the impact on the environment of strawberry soil cultivations. Within FERTINNOWA demonstrative trials are set up to show growers how to fertilize with KNS tables. The ‘Kulturbegleitenden Nmin Solwerte’-system is German and aims to reduce fertilisation based on the nitrogen availability in the soil. At the workshop participants learned how to calculate the fertilisation rates in the KNS table based on soil sampling and to take into account the mineralisation rate of the soil. In the demonstrative trial, the twenty participants could not find differences between the fully fertigated crop and the crop fertigated according to the KNS tables. Read more
