Newsletter - FEBRUARY 2017 When innovation in repair
puts into verse
with innovation in Health-Safety-Environment
CRMA, the AFI KLM E&M Center of Excellence on Combustors, has expanded its combustion chamber offering and strengthened its overall CFM56 module capability. CRMA is the only European MRO shop and the first non-OEM shop worldwide offering this repair.
Combustor repair : innovation in repair, innovation in health, innovation in safety
The protection of the Health and Safety of people working within CRMA, as well as the Environmental protection, constitute a fundamental responsibility of the Company, inseparable of its sustainable development and its values.
Our commitments are based on the rigorous respect of the regulation but also on the respect of all other applicable requirements, in particular those of our interested parties. Our key drivers are based on the coordination of our actions to improve the quality of life at work as well as our actions to reduce the risks of accident.
To cover all those aspects, and in the objective to have a permanent improvement in HSE (Health, Safety, Environment) domains , CRMA has a policy based in 5 major axis :
Reduction of our impacts on environmental risks
Improvement of the physical and mental health
Involvment on healthcare and industrial hygiene,
Involvement of our providers in our initiative of HSE prevention
Integration of the HSE initiatives into our actions of innovation as well as involvement in new projects
Let us focus on this last axis of HSE initiatives in terms of innovation. Remember, our newsletter of December was dealing with CRMA innovative solutions on multiholes combustor repair (1st shop worldwide). Click here for reminder
The adaptive solution developed by CRMA HSE department:
One best illustration of HSE involvement on part repair technologies is the specific tools that was invented to protect operators. Indeed one of the process while repairing a combustion chamber is welding. (in the photo an operator is welding some swirlers).
During such repair process, the operator inhales some smokes, a situation that questioned to the imagination of our HSE Quality Engineer Georges Gedeon. The challenge was considerable. “ I was absolutely anxious to realize a program of prevention to limit the risks linked to the inhalation of smokes during the welding process” says Georges Gedeon. It is from there that was born his invention.
Earlier, Georges has surrounded himself with internal actors (CRMA operators, …) as well as some external actors so that to confirm his reflexions.
The French Public Organization in Health & Insurance rewarded CRMA last December by a trophy (see the photo). We were congratulated for our innovation in the protection of our employees.

Thanks to this experience on consequences of smoke inhalation while welding some swirlers on the combustors, CRMA has decided to extand those aspiring tools to all workstation exposed to such a risk of smoke’s inhalation during some repair processes.
